How do you make one of the worst Joes of the ARAH run and make it more tolerable? I say "more tolerable", because this is a concept that I would ever call good because Hasbro just stole it from RoboCop.
I went with wiry proportions instead of the blocky ones, except for a big helmet, to create an off-balanced and less human design. As for the colors, it's still orange. But its orange with a black wash instead of black parts. Green is brought in for the leg gear and cloth wrap above the remaining human hand. The green indicates that he's a soldier of some variety. The remaining human hand isn't a nod to RoboCop (the remake). It was the best hand in the fodder box for the rest of the parts. Last edited by Clockwise; 04-16-2021 at 04:59 PM.. |

Not bad man. I see where you concept was going.
Personally I think wash paint jobs are terrible ways to paint . I’ve seen your paint jobs on your other figures and they look awesome! Very clean work . It would be cool to see your robojoe expose wires with you thinner robotic build. That would make this guy pop. And I’ll PM you a link to help give your clearer pictures for your hard work. Cant put in all that time and let the upload go grainy. And I agree, robojoe was one of the worst Joes of all time haha. I sure hope this helps and look forward to seeing more!

i dig the concept but i kinda agree with the color here. to me and idk if its the clarity, but its looks rusty to me. but thats just me i like things clean and neat. if there was a wash in the tight spots i'd be cool with it but the filter applied here just gives me a rust feel.

Thanks, guys.
SC and VoR, As for washes/drybrushing, I use them on about 10% of my customs- on ones that are meant to look dirty, beat up, grimy, rusty, or just trashed. Clean paints are great, but sometimes washes are the way to go. I wouldn't say it's "a terrible way" to paint. Unlike very clean painting, it's a dice roll. You give up precision to randomness. That can be hard to do, and there's a chance you won't like the finished result. In some ways, it's more of an effect than it is painting. I respect your position, though. I feel the same way about soft goods in 1:18 scale. I never think they look right. The fuzzy edges look like cotton candy and the material doesn't fold or contour correctly. ponygt, I hadn't really thought out much character development on RoboJoe, but if it reads that way, anything would be an improvement over the mess Hasbro made. Visually, I wanted it to be clear that RoboJoe wasn't (maybe) inside of the suit, but was stripped down to spindly parts. |

Haha, I always liked Robo-Joe.
This is a fun new take on him, like that you took a character you weren’t crazy about and spun him into something you enjoyed more. Has a cool like Acid Rain style look to him with that paint job and build. I like the change to the larger helmet too.

You are a multitalented guy! I often forget to check the artwork threads (why don’t those pop up on the recent posts page?!) Between the complex O-ring customs and the artwork you do, you bring a lot of fun stuff to Hisstank. I am unaware of Robo Joe so I wouldn’t fully appreciate the risks you took on this one, but thanks for always sharing your stuff.

Thanks, guys!
The oversized helmet worked out pretty well almost be accident, gotta love the Imaginext stuff! VoR, I didn't take your critique as bashing of any kind. I'm working on an unproduced NS era character and a Red Shadows character at the moment... |
