I have finally resolved to post some of the customs I have done in the past few years. I'll be sure to try and credit where I borrowed a recipe from (a lot of what I've done has been borrowed lol). Naturally, I decided to start this thread right at the start of my work week, so my next post might not be for a bit. But I'll try to post something here and there until I run out of stuff; to start off, here's Cobra Commander, my latest custom, as I've always wanted to see him:
As soon as I saw the German body, this popped into my mind. The epaulets were borrowed from a 25th Crimson Guard, head and gun are Ultimate CC, the rest is Marauders (I had to kitbash that holster so it would sit right but still hold the hairdryer pistol; I hope I can find something that looks more natural). Painted with Vallejo Game Color Electric Blue (one of my favorites), Bloody Red, and Silver, and Model Color Gold. There is one distinct advantage of the helmeted CC that seems to fall by the wayside, and that is why I prefer it, despite the hood looking more ceremonial and other masks more intimidating: it's a mirror. Anyone looking at CC sees themself, which is perfect for an individual with such a love of theatrics. One sort-of neat thing I heard during the never-ending slew of misery and hypocrisy that is the news was that the Nazis used an upside-down, red triangle to denote political prisoners. In my Joeverse, CC is a left-wing revolutionary, so I painted the triangle on his belt like that as a little symbolic reference: And finally, here he is with two of his bodyguards. While I love all the Red Shadows I've seen done with the red German body, this is what I wanted it for, and I'm glad that I'm the first I've seen use it this way. It looks like the perfect balance of style and function to my eyes, which is fitting for the Cobra Army's elites. I also used the 25th heads because I just like the shape of the helmets better than the Retaliation ones. Paints were all Vallejo again: Vermillion, Black, and Silver. Decals on both CC and the CGs were from Bad Mother Tattoos, of course. I'm hoping to get better at photography as I go (only have my phone as a camera), and I'm hoping I can find a more scenic background than my bedroom wall (at least it's not beige). Maybe when the Complex KS delivers next year. Thanks for looking! Last edited by GarterSnake788; 08-08-2020 at 05:28 PM.. |

That is a top notch CC. I'm gonna have to get a bottle of that electric blue next time I goto the hobby store. Look forward to seeing more customs from you.

Nice CC and CGs! I thought about the red German bucks for the CGs, but decided not to go that route, thinking it wouldn't work that well... I guess you proved me wrong, and now I will be copying them. Kudos!

Thanks everybody, and HissHissFangFan especially, since you're the reason I threw in the low-light, high-contrast pic. I'll try to have another figure up sometime in the next couple days! I'm thinking my take on a Hazard-Viper, since he's sitting on my computer desk currently.

Cobra Commander and the Crimson Guardsmen all look great!
Had a similar thought for the German build for Cobra Commander but have only tried it with hoods so far so it’s awesome to see one tackled using the battle mask. That color pops really well and looks awesome on that build. Well done on the detailing and adding the cobra symbol too. I need to grab some of them for my builds. Was curious to see how Crimson Guard would work using those bodies but never had extra helmets to try, love how they came out.

The backpacks were another story though; their pegs were too big and they snapped off very easily, so I glued them to the figures backs instead. |
