Vehicles 1985 MAULER custom RC with suspension

I picked up a few maulers in different shapes. One was running really bad.. turns out the MOTOR itself was improperly assembled at the Mabuchi factory, so it was running 1/3 of the power.
I feel so bad for the poor kid who got this expensive toy and it ran really bad.

Also, for anyone restoring Maulers... the stock gears are too close. I bevel the edges/ shave the edges with a sharp blade and lube the bearing surfaces Individually. It makes a difference, runs smoother and shifts better. The picture shows a stock arrangement.

I made RC conversions over the years using existing 1/24 scale RC tanks.
Lately the electronics and power source are much much more compact than what they used to be.
The tamiya gearbox costs $15 and its gears can be replaced. A 3D printed gearbox brace holds the gearbox with no modifications to the mauler.( press fit inside the square hole)

Also shown 3D printed wheels for the Equalizer, for RC conversion. The Brazilian plastic is mich stiffer and more brittle than the American made mauler.
Regardless, it is a good looking machine.

Next, I think it is feasible to have a third figure in the turret, with a proper hatch. Since the large gearbox is gone, there is ample room for a turret basket and more goodies.
Eventually , will get to a turret drive and gun elevation system, as well as a firing mech.
What should this firing mech be?
Lazer? Infra red? BBs Or plastic pellets? Cap firing? Water squirting? Sound and smoke? Bright flash?
Bb shooting will be difficult given the barrel diameter. I am also looking for something fitting this toy rather than go full hobby grade.

Do you have the STL or Step files for your mods? I just got my mauler out for my son and he is loving it. I would love to upgrade this bad boy. I forgot how well made the original GI Joe toys were made.

Very cool!!! Great work. I really love the retooled Equalizer. Does the Lynx turret fit into the hole on the Equalizer chassis or did you have to do some mods? I am not a customizer but that is one thing I have always wanted to do myself.
