I’ve been having a blast modding and replacing parts on these GI Joe vehicles so I decided to do another one. Small aircraft are always needed for covert ops and when I saw the Locust it seemed perfect. It almost looks like one of those kit helicopters from the 80s, but this has a raising windscreen, detailed engine, tail fan and more. BUT I didn’t like the landing gear. Fortunately it looks like lots of kids broke or lost that part. So I picked up an unloved/skiddless/cheap copy of the Locust. I also wanted the more realistic color scheme. There’s some crazy version in neon colors.
The design for the new skids is more conventional. Support tubes that run to skids. The original is just a single extrusion. I did incorporate some widening to allow for a foot peg (like the original) and more stable positioning. Also added some grab handles, rings and some non skid texture. I’m pretty psyched to now have a cool little mini assault copter that can carry 3 Joes and packs a punch. This was a quick project but I still plan to add stickers and paint....probably.

Nice work!
You could push the skids out further and add benches like a Littlebird. Last edited by SF Officer; 10-13-2020 at 09:49 AM.. |

I am really in awe of what you've made.
I always thought the original skids were fine... until seeing what you've made. Let me know when you're up for making an Osprey-style helicopter! |
