[Captain Hydra]

Hello, I've been lurking here for a while and thought I would share some of my customs and original characters with you. First a short introduction. I only collect Cobra troops, this steams from when I was a kid, I would buy the Cobras and my brother would buy the Joes, so now I find myself only interested in Cobra. I only collect and customize the 25A line. I personally hate the old style joes and think they look terribly dated. They were great in the 80's but it's time to move on. Anyway these are my first attempts at Joe customs. I used to customize Lord of the Rings figures a few years back. As for my customizing pilot, I strive to make my customs look like factory product as much as possible. I feel that if a non-collector can look at your figures and immediately spot the customs, they are not done properly. To me this means knowing when to stop and not over painting them. Washes and dry brushing look great and I used them all the time in my LOTR customs, but with this line it destroys the continuity. Hasbros figures are not dry brushed so mine can not be either. Anyway enough about me on to the customs.

First up is Cobra Commanders personal body guard unit. This was a very simple custom and was inspired by my desire to use my extra black CC bodies. The parts should be obvious. The trench coat is from a German Army figure from Toys R Us. I think they has a very SS look to them. I have 2 of these guys right now with a few more to come.

I didn't write a full bio for them yet but basically they are hand picked by CC from various Trooper/Viper units for their fanaticism and personal loyalty to CC. The full unit is only about 6 strong. Each one is willing to die to protect their commander. Sometimes they will even dress as the commander as decoys in particularly dangerous situations. At least 2 guards will accompany CC everywhere. The guards are very well paid and the position includes many benefits not available to other units.

Her's a pic of the two guards with a modified CC I'm working on. I don't like his baby blue outfit so I repainted one of the black ones to match the color of the hooded outfit. I've still got to add the cobra symbol.

those are great! Ive got that same trenchcoat thing, least it looks like it, got it from a WWII BBI figure I think. Still havent figured out what to do with it, but I painted it black too lol.
