I've had this for some time now. I like the vehicles design but the rear area really annoyed me. I was on the verge of putting this up on Ebay but decided to give it a second look. It just seemed like over kill to have this whole pod section that had a puny gun and 4 missiles. I wanted to make this more of a recon vehicle that can hold a crew of 4 or 5 figures and still have enough small arms fire to get out of a tight situation.
I took the vehicle completely apart to see what I can do to get rid of rear spring action section. Turns out that it was actually really easy to do. Here's the result. Here's my Arctic squad with the Ice Sabre: I took off the small top mounted cannon and put Roadblock's machine gun there to give it a more real life feel. The gunner is a custom Cold Front. Because of the length of the machine gun, the figure kneels behind on the ledge to man the machine gun. Added another machine gun on the left side that is hidden when the side is up and accessible to use when the side is down. It can be operated by someone at the back when the side is flipped down. I took the antenna, radar, and small gun from the rear pod and mounted it on the rear. This gun is meant to be operated remotely at the station wear Duke is looking down at in the picture. Here's picture of the driver. It was really hard to find a figure that fits in the cockpit. I just modified the Frostbite head that was from the included figure and stuck it on an extra Resolute Duke body with different arms (just cause it was in my spare parts bin cause the arms were used for something else). The copilot is just a Snake Eyes with some other vest I had with a MARs trooper head. Here's some more shots of the vehicle equipped with a crew. Just an extra shot showing some of my custom and modified Club arctic Joes: Iceberg, Ice Storm, and Blizzard. As a kid, I loved arctic Joes cause they all had so much gear (except Iceberg). The only unique arctic Joe that I don't have a modern version of so far is Ice Storm I think.

That is a great idea, definitely an improvement. Unfortunately I have just sold my version or I might have tried something similar. I too always liked the Arctic guys.

Thanks. I actually pulled it out to take pictures to list on Ebay but decided to give it a second chance and then ended up making the custom instead. It's something I've thought about doing this since the first one was released but it wasn't till now that I decided to take the plunge and do it.

I like it a lot, a great cold weather personnel carrier armed with heavy machine guns - by making it a simpler vehicle you made it better. I agree with you about the pop up turret as well - it was a neat idea but not executed well. I love the artic themed joe stuff - I am getting ready to give my Avalanche the Xerofall restoration treatment!

I just need to give it a nice soap and water bath and I think it will look pretty good! I think that once it is complete I will have my complete Artic Joe force. I have 2 snowcats - 1 original and the 2002 version, the RoC Ice Sabre (the blue one), Avalanche and 2 Polar Battle Bears from the past and present 2009 set. |

Nighthawk, that's a real nice conversion, looks more realistic, all you need now are some fuel cans, ammo cans and some rucksacks attached on the exterior sides

Nice, I think this is a much more realistic use for this vehicle
