Thanks again for the great comments, more figures to follow.
Thanks, glad to be inspiring you, I have enjoyed your custom threads in my lurker days. All of Doc is painted, I was disappointed that the tan arm colour did not match the tan legs, but then neither did the vintage helmet. I had to paint the torso anyway as that is not available in tan (yet) so once I had painted that (which I think is a mix of Army Painter Desert Yellow and Vallejo Iraqi Sand) I slightly watered down my paint mix and applied a light coat to the legs and arms. The idea was to blend the colours rather than totally paint the parts as I don't like painting over the shoulder, elbow and knee joints. Once this had dried I applied a coat of Army Painter Soft Tone Quickshade, I don't tend to use quickshade on my GI Joe customs but the thinking was that if it was not one solid colour then if any scratches or chips did occur then it wouldn't be so obvious as the colour underneath was a close matching tan anyway. I then applied the decals followed by a coat of decal fix. When that had dried I gave all the parts a light spray of Army Painter Satin Varnish. I prefer satin for whole figures, but do use gloss and matte also for individual parts depending on what effect I am going for. I then put the parts aside for 2 days (waiting is the hardest part) before assembling the figure. It doesn't say to leave for 2 days, that is just my rule, the figure will be touch dry in about 30 mins. Jason |

They certainly do (for me anyway)!

Thanks for the detailed response! I am also working on a Doc custom right now, using the Contractor-Ops pants, British WWII torso, and rolled-sleeve forearms. The tan color I painted the torso does not quite match the pants. So, I plan to give all the parts a slight wash to make them match better, but I don't want to loose the sheen of the MTF parts. I'll have to look that Army Painter Satin Varnish up. I think my local train/hobby store sells Army Painter brand. Thanks again!

First up for today is Cutter. I resisted painting the torso and arms light blue for Shipwreck but felt I had to do it for Cutter. The life jacket is from a Chap Mei figure (albeit this is actually a cast version), but I do buy figures with this jacket whenever I see them cheap as I do like to use them.

Since I did this figure Marauders have made a very similar one available but I still thought I would include it. I am interested in knowing what the wrist guard they used on their's is like, for my wrist guard I used a BFS arm wrap slightly trimmed down as I thought it was too long as it was.

Recondo is a figure I am thinking about redoing using WW2 parts but I am still happy with my original. The head is modified to take the GI Joe hat so the hat is not removable.

I am no military historian but I thought the uniform of the Black Sea Regiment was black (or a very dark blue) and suspect Lt Gorky was just shown in grey in the comic so he would show up better (but could be very wrong). As the character is after my time (but the Oktober Guard need more members) I am happy with him looking like this. I do have a plan for changing the torso that might make him more naval looking, but I need more parts for that and with International shipping how it is at the moment that will be at least a month off.

I was wondering who to do for a Cobra reveal today and decided Blueshirts. I am sure most people who use the MTF product have their own take on these guys, but these are my Cobra Troopers and Officer.
