Unfamiliar with this one so I had to look him up. Your colors work better than the original’s IMHO. Great update and excellent presentation as always!

Thanks! This was a fun paint job to do. Had been doing a lot of precision painting or just accent work so fun to get back to slapping down a bunch again! Awesome, glad you enjoy them! I love doing the photoshoots for the customs, then it’s always fun when a small picture idea expands into a scene or full blown story. One with your 80’s group of customs would be incredible! We all did our own crossovers growing up so would be fun to see them visualized in the same scale. Haha. Quote:
Haha, the best type of compliment! Thanks, I appreciate it! Especially because I love the weirder Joe figures. Quote:
Definitely some fun photos with this one, especially because those are definitely some of my lesser utilized Cobras. And I don’t get to use the Tomahawks nearly enough. I love them so much!

Rapid-Fire is sweet! Love the color pop of that green. You’ve always been one to nail the brighter colors and it’s fun seeing how you pull it off. Also, sorry about getting you into painting the heads/faces.... Hahaha! It’s nice seeing you expanding your talents and making even better versions of your characters.

Lmao! It added extra steps to some guys but they do come out soooo much better! Haha. so I definitely appreciate you sharing some tips. It really helps with groups where multiple guys use the same heads, gives them all a unique look.

Up next is another that I was not planning on doing yet at all. I really wanted him and had an idea for the head but the build was stumping me because of the lack of jacket parts. This was another who came together during my initial sculpting trial with green stuff.
Dogfight always makes me laugh because he’s another who I completely missed growing up. But then even recently, I saw the original figure in a bin of Joes at a retro toy store.....and I passed because I totally thought it was a knockoff dollar store figure from back in the day that got dropped in there by accident. But now that I made a custom and realized that what I passed up that day was a legit Joe, always gets a laugh out of me. Sorry vintage Dogfight! This one started with sculpting the mustache on the Marauder sunglass head, then finishing the look of the head by hitting the glasses with some chrome and painting / applying the sticker to a hat. Then adding the marauder headset. Since I don’t have jacket parts yet, I decided to use him to get another contractor out of my bin to give him a dressed down look. Added a holster & bag that have been in my bins forever to add a little color to him. Really love the final result, especially the head build I came up with. Might return to him down the road when we get some easier to do jacket looks but happy to say I have a Dogfight now! Dogfight Then you can’t do a Dogfight custom without getting him into some swamp action! And see! He’s not missing his jacket because I haven’t figured out a good way to do them yet, it’s because someone stole it! Same reason the Mudfighter is missing!

This is one that I had my eye on doing ever since I saw Rob’s awesome combo version of Super Trooper / Rapid Fire. Assumed I would wait to do him until bare arm parts came out but I loved his version so much that I knew he was getting bumped up as soon as I had parts to do him.
https://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-j...-style-22.html Rapid Fire is one of those characters that I don’t remember at all in the store, not even sure if I’ve seen him at toy shows so YoJoe and customs were really my only interaction with him. Once I started putting him together though I really started to enjoy the character, also fun because Super Trooper was the first custom I ever shared on Hisstank so this was a fun chance to see one of my early customs compared to a more recent one who both share similar builds. So while sitting there with the new blue contractor in hand, had the same feeling I had with the yellow one, the paint job on the pants is too nice to really cover it up or paint over it so who can I do that had blue pants? Then I started thinking about Rob’s Rapid Figure and decided to use this as my jumping point. Another pretty easy build, blue contractor, armored vest, WW2 helmet & accessories and then some elbow & knee pads to make him more accurate to the original figure. Then since the head and body skin tones didn’t match, I decided to paint the face also. Rapid Fire I love the comparison pics between the two of them. So funny how different I do things now compared to last April. Then Kuh_Rupht really showing me how much life some paint gives you the Marauder heads really makes this guy stand out compared to my original. Need to add some paint to that one’s face because I didn’t realize how off the skin tones were on him until now. Haha, definitely something I didn’t focus on as much back then. Then the pair of them getting to drop in like a video game: I love all the scenes you add to your customs, it's a big bonus so please keep it up!! |
