Nice work. Were the hard-to-paint repro fins made of that slick plastic? If it's the kind of plastic Im thinking of then even sanding the part is difficult and it tends to be bendy meaning the paint will chip too. It sucks when a cool part is made from a type of material that makes painting difficult.

Yup - exactly that kind of plastic. Fortunately the way it's made, it's not too bendy, but I could see where that would be a problem as well.
I finally used a plastic prep primer which seemed to help, but since it was on top of the first layer of paint that I couldn't sand down completely, it's still not great. If I did it again, I'd obviously start with the prep primer. |

Nice job, I still have my Starfighter from Christmas 1977-78, whenever it was first released and also had to get repo nose cones, rear landing gear/fins, and engine nozzles from a guy on eBay. I left the original stickers on it as I couldn’t bring myself to replace them. It wouldn’t be the same fighter I used to attack the evil empire with 😉 and defend the mother ship.

Looks fantastic. On the fins, did you try using paint primer coat before painting them? Regardless, looks great all around.
