I don't post my work very frequently because let's be honest, it's always the same old stuff. Bunkers, bunkers, and more bunkers. If I posted everything I built, you'd be looking at the same floor plan again and again. This one, in fact, is pretty much the same as another piece I've posted before, with one crucial difference.
I've mentioned a few times that I'm really trying to get the weight down, I've talked about abandoning wood altogether for another material, etc. Shipping on these can get to be outrageous, but I just can't bring myself to trade durability to save a few bucks. I think I've kinda of found a happy medium here, though. Rather than going with solid wood as I usually do, I basically built everything out of Styrofoam, and then clad the whole thing in high density fibre board, which allowed me to shave 2/3 of the weight of while still being practically bomb proof. It's not light by any stretch of the imagination, still weighs in around 5 lbs, but it sure beats the original 15 I would have been looking at.

Thanks dude, I go back and forth on that quite a bit, but 90% of the time I feel that there's not enough difference between the stuff I build to justify a whole new post, in fact if this one hadn't of been made completely differently from my norm, it wouldn't have made the cut either. I make a lot of the same thing over and over, and I don't want to burn you all out, after all! I'm thinking from here on out I'll just save pics of what I've built over the course of the month and make a thread at the end, provided I get time to make some unique pieces.
Those are actually 1" staples. Bit of a pain, because I have to install them after I paint, and the texturing process can make the guide holes a bit tough for my old eyes to see.

Could you possibly put toothpicks in the holes while painting so you know where they are post paint? Might make them easier to find. |

You know, that's not a bad idea, I'll have to try that out. Thanks for the suggestion!
