This one I envision as an amphibious recon vehicle. The Warthog that I used bears a strong resemblance to the USMC AmTrack AAV-7, going to so far as to have the three hatches in the same place, but is way too small. The real AAV is a beast. So, I figured a smaller one would be a recon vehicle, hence the antennae array. The forward hatch is the driver seat. The starboard forward facing seat is the vehicle commander/gunner seat, and the port side inboard facing seat is the troop commander/operations seat. Hybrid electric drive to give dwell time and limited submerged capability. The vehicle can do signals recon as well as deploy scout swimmers. The forward weapons are a 50 cal gatling gun paired with a 40 mmm belt fed grenade launcher. The antenna mast has a 7.62 gatling gun along with 2.75 guided rockets.
Obviously, this is a warthog that was beat to heck. I had to scratch build the TC hatch. I wanted a weapons system similar the one on a AAV, but that would require a small turret where the vc hatch is, so I went with a remote weapons station. I added joysticks at each station, I moved the seats to face outboard in the troop compartment, added an ammo rack, and fire extinguisher, and a SAW at both the TC and VC hatches, just in case. I used rustoleum camo tan (yes, I do own other colors, but I like that one), Model Masters light grey for the interior, and various tamiya and model masters paints for details, along with a chrome pen for highlights. Weathered with testors pre made wash (it is okay, but watered down black paint is just as good, maybe better IMHO). Really cool update with what sounds like a lot of work. I say “sounds like” because your work is so flawless that I can’t tell what was customized and what is factory. Do you have a before picture? Is this an ARAH Warthog or from another line?

This was a factory GI Joe warthog, missing some pieces-the TC hatch, I think the missiles which I would not have used any way so I may have somewhere, and some of the kibble like machine guns and antenna. Looking at Yojoe, it looks like it didn't come with a lot of extras. If I find a carcass cheap enough, I would like to do another one as I have more ideas for this particular vehicles. |

Man, now I want to get a Warthog again to do something similar. I cut mine apart to make an interior on one of those TRU Steel Badgers and now it would be nice to get another Warthog to do something to it. The one thing I hated about the Warthog was the 2 orange missiles. I like how you solved that design issue that I didn't like.
Great job.
