just finished this up, had a guy inquire about adapting this Halo set for his Acid Rain figures (which, of course, I didn't know anything about until building this. I'm a purist, i guess!) i've included a pic of the original set for those who aren't familiar, its deceptively small- those spartans are only around 1" tall.
this was quite a new experience for me, i typically fly by the seat of my pants when i build, or at the most draw inspiration from old stock photos of ruined Normandy bunkers, so it was a rewarding challenge to try and capture the essence of the original at some 4x the size. its definitely not perfect, but im pretty happy with how it turned out. usual recipe here: wood, MDF, HDF, patience and love!

Fantastic. Have you thought about making some models in slotted blue foam for easy transport and storage?

Its really tempting to use a material like foam, not just to knock that weight down, but also from a seller's standpoint to lighten my workload, increase my output and dramatically lower what I have to charge per build. What's usually stopped me is the natural durability of wood, I build these to be just about bomb-proof, which I've always considered a major selling point. I've always liked the idea that one of us 30-40 year old "kids" can display a collection in one of these safely on a shelf, or just as easily let one of the actual kids take it out in the front yard for a full scale assault and have it come back in one piece. I haven't ruled it out, though. Especially on a day like yesterday, dealing with an old abused mitre saw in a rickety old shop in the 95° weather;) I guess that was a pretty wordy response to a simple question, but in short- it's something I've thought about a lot lately. Its like you're reading my mind, man!
