PhotoGrid_1599374066028~3 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Ready for 84? I was, but kuh_rupht beat me to the punch with an excellent version of the guy I was ready to start with [https://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-j...ustom-kr.html]. I'll hold off on him a little, while we all absorb the goodness. The other guy is ready (no turning back now)--just need to get down notes (parts, paints, etc). .............AND 9 MONTHS LATER............... 2021-06-06_03-34-10 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Yeah, kinda got sidetracked. Did a lot of work to finish out this class this weekend. Don't think I will doing a full figure-by-figure breakdown for these guys--just some HHFF group shots and quick notes, like back in my old days. These Hasbro Fan fest things just keep eating away at my soul, but I vow to finish 1984 this month.

Dang man, loving all your custom goodness here!
Spirit, Duke, Hawk and Covergirl are my favorites, but they are all frickin’ awesome, especially your last pic here of Torpedo and co, Tripwire, Mutt, damn man pure excellence, a billion times better than what Hasbro pumps out, loving your work ;) Roadblock is mean as hell, awesome! |

Mutt's major mods were to fix the mask, fix the bulging upper thighs and holster, and replace the weird right arm and hand. Below is another picture I did last year. I never completed a full photo package for nice stand-alone entry. This and previous pic were inspired by comics story/panels, but Liefield style (no//sparse backgrounds). 2021-06-07_04-12-00 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr 1984 class shot almost ready to be shared, pending last approvals... |

G.I. Joe 1984 (2021)
2021-06-07_01-45-33 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Some quick notes for now: I snuck my recent STALKER and HAWK updates in here, as I think of these particular figures as 1984, inspired by the comic book issues of that year (and this Stalker made almost specifically for my previous Ripcord pics). Visually, it let me keep massive Roadblock in the middle lower row as well. I snuck the animals into the picture in a way that doesn’t make me cringe too hard. I’m really not a fan of the animals (they’re all in a fodder box, not on display), but I realize FREEDOM and JUNKYARD are too iconic not to include for archive purposes. ROADBLOCK and SPIRIT are pretty much the same as previously showcased in the first post of this thread. I have two Roadblocks, with the one not pictured above in more vivid colors, while the one above tried to stay more accurate with the original vintage figure. DUKE here is my extra Duke from Aug 2019, post 57, painted more accurate to the original vintage figure (though I prefer the slightly different color scheme on my other one). I forgot that I wanted to change the hand to bare hands over gloved ones, but maybe for another time… RIPCORD and BLOWTORCH are pretty much as presented previously (post 260 and 267, Sept 2020), though I updated Blowtorch’s goggles after post 260, and switched Ripcord’s rifle to one from MGR. MUTT hadn’t been shown before but was actually the FIRST 1984 figure I started after completing 1983 and teased 1984 last year. Main things were to improve the mask and thighs (and holster). Really there is a whole lot more changes to the figure if you look closely—POC Duke torso and upper arms, new lower right arm and hand, new modified lower left arm—but probably not necessary changes that did much. 2021-06-07_04-25-12 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr RECONDO was to be next after RIPCORD but I got distracted with Hasbro’s 2020 Retro releases. I think he turned out looking really nice looking, but a big part of me felt I didn’t try hard enough to match the vintage figure’s webgear look. This kinda stalled me on 1984 until now. I liked how the POC jungle webgear looked better, and it was designed as jungle gear. Torso and legs are from a 25th Mutt (legs modified slimmer per my updated Mutt), and for some reason(s), I was absolutely fixated on a having the longer untucked shirt look (modified 25th Snow Job skirt). THUNDER was really done a while ago as well but was waiting for more 1984 class to be completed. ROC Thunder vest, 50th Falcon legs (fixated on the poofy lower pants on these and the vintage figure). Upper body DG Cobra Trooper. Headgear from vintage figure, which I had high hopes of reinventing, but didn’t happen. I have like three of the original figure bought off ebay, using the head for my vintage//o-ring OG13 Hawk figures. DEEP-SIX’s dive suit was unmodified—had hopes on doing something crazy like past HissTankers (particularly nath_1977) had done, but realized it would take me a few years to really get down. I needed a 13th figure for the pic, so I whipped up this non-suited Deep-Six last week using DG Shipwreck that was previously used for a custom Renegades Flint. The neck ball on the figure was cut off and set lower on the neck—something I had recently done with my 50th Snake Eyes to good effect. This lets me use the same Deep Six head on both figures shown above. Now have to find room on my tight Joe collection shelf for this one… CUTTER has a lot of work I want to do in the future, but not anytime soon I fear. The head was one of the first real custom work I ever did going beyond painting and part swapping. The hat came from a Johnny Damon McFarlane figure that I planted on the original 25th Cutter head. These days, I realize that 25th GungHo head is not up to par, but keep this custom head for my own nostalgic purposes. Last year I swapped the upper body for the 5-pack Shipwreck one (legs went to another figure, 1987 yet to be presented). I paid too much for that figure to just wasted in the fodder box. This week, I realized that I needed to paint the belt the blue-green of the holster and switch to gloveless hands, but I will wait and get all these things updated sometime in the future. I didn’t have any of these Joe 84 figures back as a kid—I was all about the Cobras. The 25th collection was my chance to collect them all, as I really do like the figures and characters. It’s nice to have this whole class updated for my shelf and collection, and have 1983 and 1984 all upgraded—something I never thought I would do back or even needed to do back in 2017. Also, I actually do like a lot of the unmodified 25th versions of these guys. During the last year, I made sure to maintain a copy of all these guys unmodified. Thanks man. A lot of these were done and presented a few years back when this thread started. A bunch more done fall last year with the rest finished mostly this month. I don't think I really aimed for a complete modified updated 1984 class until just last fall when I completed 1983. Cobra figures and OG13 were always my first priorities, but seemed to run out of things to do with those guys since maybe 2019, save a few updates here and there.

Fall 2022: Unfinished Business
20220904_063250 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Killing off my beret issue obession (see T13 and O13 Aud 2022), unfinished 84 write ups, a few more 86 figure, a bunch of passable 87, and addressing 85. But first, the bookend to T13 Classic Style, 85-87. Front end in my O13 taken Apr 2022 for 82-84, something I've been meaning to do for the past year, but worried I couldn't recreate that style in my newer setup. Close enough I think? https://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-j...ml#post5394746 20220904_065123 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr I also wanted to make sure the figures were "done", no retaking these images. Unfortunately, after a few days I started seeing issues, some with Falcon, lots with Tunnel Rat. So, working on fixing TR this weekend. Falcon and TR never got their A-list photos, so we'll start there. But after some play with Flint's beret color... 20220904_063250~2 (1) by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr |
