Rad, bro! That Rip-Cord is the real deal! Why couldn't Hasbro give us something like this? I wouldn't care if it was a "Franken-Joe", if it looks that good spliced together... Amazing work, as usual!

Retro Roadblock is here!!! Found Wave 2 today, so everything else gets put on hold while I digest these guys. Roadblock IS 1984, so, good timing, eh?
2020-10-10_04-35-06 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Don’t mind the figures on the sides. Just some build concepts I suggested a few years ago. Because RetroRB has no feet articulation I needed something to prop him up from falling backwards. This is their last task before heading into the fodder bin, double redundant because RetroRB is here!!! I switched out the awesome green vest for a 25th harness, for those of you that are sticklers for accuracy and want to switch things up. As you can see, it fits snugly around the waist—a little bit high, though the double belt look is cool. And the pads around the shoulders will have to sit a little wide. If you want them to “accurately” cover the shirt straps, you’ll have to live with the harness belt a “smidge” higher—and also need a backpack to keep them in place, as the harness naturally wants to fan outwards. You can also cheat the belt down by hunching the torso forward, giving him a more menacing stance (when the figure is properly held up). The head is a dead ringer for Roadblock. Well, not now, but in a few years when this Classified look establishes itself as definitive Roadblock. So this figure is both Retro and forward thinking, and everyone wins. Clever. Not as clever as spending new tooling on a brand new head (much better than any released by Hasbro previously), and not wasting it on a new harness that I was begging for. The colors are nice and sharp, and on point. The green is a perfect match to some vintage figures later in the line: now Roadblock and stand alongside neon Joes without looking so awkward. He also blends in perfectly with 50th Gung-Ho, Retro Scarlett, and of course the new Snake Eyes. The camo is also well done, using two greens not too dissimilar to each other to make the camo not overtly distracting. The arms and hands are perfect, and they gave us the correct right hand (without that molded in thingee from the first Retaliation Roadblock). Of course I’m being snarky here: obviously Hasbro would fix any major issues with this Retro release. Some would like better articulated hands, but I would say that would take too much research through their library to find the right figure with that expensive and arguably unnecessary articulation. Last, great choice on the legs, as they were the original parts molded for this torso. The thighs are nice and thin to fit into the torso, then expand in width as you get to the knees for a perfect fit there. The knees may not be double jointed, but quite a few previous Roadblocks were built this way, and no one really complained about those. The unarticulated feet work well, giving the figure a solid look at the base (when the figure is properly held up). Seeing these legs on this figure has me pumped to find a way to use five similar leg molds in my fodder bin! I bought two of these figures originally for fodder--but after opening, it will be hard to take apart these gems. Thank you Hasbro--can’t wait for RetroDuke!!! 2020-10-10_05-32-41 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr |

This a great line up of modern era v1 RBs...I find your take of this version much superior, starting from the head sculpt, lower leg articulation, hands and paint apps in general as they make more sense aesthetically.
That said, RB retro is probably my favorite of the line so far...with Scarlett of course. Love your photography skills too! |

Your custom roadblock is better though. Did you extend the shoulder straps on them?

Nice review, but I agree with Turner. They should have used the build on your customs for this figure. It would have kept the articulation that GI Joe is also known for.
