Kudos on Countdown man! You did a bang up job on the paints! Did you just glue the holster on to his chest? I think he is one of your 2022 roster's best! =)
I read what you said about the Joe recreation well starting to run dry for you, losing the Marauder mojo etc. with what's available within the MTF catalog... Keep in mind that you crank out a lot of stuff, & you may find it more fulfilling if it's more of a creative call than if your feeling it's an obligatory one to do "what's next." Just another MTF guy on the block's 25 cents worth lol. ;-) Thanks, SB, for your ?attaboy?. It?s a bit ironic that Countdown even turned out as well as he did. I?ve been putting off painting him for months as he had so much that needed to be done. Originally, I had a lot more armor-y bits on the Countdown torso, but when I put the helmet on, it couldn?t sit flush to the shoulders and made the figure look like a giraffe. So I just kept the torso factory and glued the holster straight onto his stomach. I think the main reason I?m losing steam is I just can?t get the pieces I need like cloth legs with waists. Or Ranger heads. Of course, the kids are out for summer and that?s also taking its toll. At the end of the day, I can either do more work or relax by watching Classic Dr. Who. I just need Viet-Nam and the Underwater/Astronaut stuff to come out.

Bro, that's too relatable. Been missing the Ranger heads for ages, and the lack of cloth legs in a lot of colors has been a pain. Here's hoping they get a restock sometime in the near future!

As at this point, you never know if the Rangers will ever come back around. Cloth legs yeah, I've noticed the green was recently out of stock. I have prepped already some stuff for the upcoming 'Nam, Underwater, & Astro stuff, but then again, I also have 15+ customs done just waiting on the MGR 2020 heads that I built in... y'know... 2020. lol!!!!!!! I feel when I pull things that are from my other influences & interests this deep in... (that are not G.I. Joe) ...is when some of my very best creative instincts hit! ;-) The important thing is to take a look at the sum of your work and be proud, then enjoy the ride when the next bit of inspiration hits! ;-) |

In my never ending quest to piece together a Dial-Tone that I think looks half decent, I?ve switched to the Agency Dress Shirts.
DIAL-TONE (V1): 1986 For Dial-Tone V1, I spliced together the torso of the green dress shirt with the arms from another tan dress shirt. I painted the collar tan to give it a sweater-vesty look. DIAL-TONE (V2): 1986 For Dial-Tone V2, I used a black dress shirt and painted the torso (minus the collar) brown to keep that sweater vest look.

I?ve been working through my fodder bins. Not very much to work with, but I was able to cobble together an original character, the S.N.A.K.E. Operator. I know that the SNAKES were made obsolete once the B.A.T.s came online. But, remember, the SNAKE blueprints show that they employ brainwashing equipment. That got me thinking. What if Cobra Commander kept the SNAKES relevant by using captured enemies as frontline, expendable troops firing on their own allies. Cobra Commander would relish watching brainwashed Joes firing on other Joes.
In this case, my S.N.A.K.E. Operator is a former OG13 Joe now forced to rack up kills for Cobra. Who he is, I?m not saying. I?ll unmask him in my next post. (I don?t expect anybody will give a shit, but it?s fun for me). S.N.A.K.E. OPERATOR

Your mind-washed S.N.A.K.E. Operator is a cool concept and looks spectacular.

Dude, that's pretty cool!
My idea for the S.N.A.K.E.s was to use the exo-suits to mock-up them and the Claws, repurpose the idea as Cobra's mini-mechas, but this is a great idea! |
