Just a silly little group shot tonight. I was bored and figured I would form a Joe Village People group (the guys in the back with Shipwreck are original characters VAQUERO and APACHE. Vaquero is supposed to be the dedicated Locust helicopter pilot and Apache is a close-combat specialist. Basically that means he loves to mow down Cobras with his axe.)
THE VILLAGE SQUAD

Thank you, gentlemen.
In keeping with the group-shot theme, I pulled out my Snake Eyes kitbashes. This is just something to keep me busy while I wait for a Marauders order to get here. Then I should be able to complete Energon Chameleon, Night Force Muskrat, Ice-Viper, and my Battlecorps version of Hard-Top. SNAKE EYES (Group Photo)

I have a couple new kitbashes tonight. One is from the wonderful Night Force sub-team which - forgive me if I am wrong - was a Toys R Us exclusive back in the day. The second is my Battlecorps version of a D-list Joe, Hardtop.
Here is a Night Force Muskrat from 1989. I have never been much of a fan of Muskrat, though I appreciate he is well-loved. I find the first version of Muskrat to be a bit boring. Just a green Boonie and a green uniform. I like the Night Force Version of the figure much better, with his blue and black. MUSKRAT (V1): 1989 Okay, brace yourself. Battlecorps Hardtop is not for the faint hearted. You may need to turn the brightness down on your device. The idea for this kitbash started rattling around in me brain after seeing a road crew in my neighborhood. I thought a road-crew-inspired G.I.Joe would be fun. The colors on the vest are obviously safety-related. The white T-shirt is typical of a blue-collar character and the light blue pants are meant to evoke jeans. And, of course, I felt the Hardtop name would be imminently appropriate. As luck would have it, I had an extra AVACs hard hat in my bin. Battlecorps Hardtop is clearly a garishly loud kitbash in the vein of Eco Warriors Outback, Cyber-Viper or Mega-Viper, but the colors throughout the figure originate from the vest. Plus, I wanted to see if I could still use my years-old Citadel Orange bottle. Now, I have no idea what MOS Hardtop could have. Maybe if I was coked-out like a 90s Hasbro executive, it might come to me. HARDTOP (Battlecorps)

Really good stuff. You do just the right amount of adjustments in terms of paint and accessorizing to make these feel fresh every time. Hardtop really pops, but boy is there a lot to love with all those Snake Eyes...es. Muskrat is pretty spot on, too

Great customs Rob! I've only done the NF version of Muskrat myself, and my favorite part is how you handled/painted his boots, they really stood out to me.
I also have a AVAC'S hard hat sitting in my bin as a freebie, with no direction, so your inventiveness with making a BC Hardtop is ace! Love the colors, he really oozes 90's goodness! Your paint choices get better & better! |
