Awesome customs as usual HHFF, love the idea on your Stalker head choice, somewhat of a Battle Corp/ROC mashup on Stalker (with Knit Cap) instead of the usual beret, which makes sense because berets are usually worn in garrison and not normally worn during combat operations. This group photo looks like they're Combat Ready.

Those sunglasses!! WOW!! Everyone is going to want to know how you did that!!
I love having alternate uniforms for characters. So, I really like this ROC/POC-style look to this team. I also like how you worked the retro Roadblock head into this group. Although it reminds me more of Mack from Agents of SHIELD, I think that actor (Henry Simmons) would make a much better Roadblock than the Rock. Can't wait to see more details on Stalker -- especially those sunglasses! Jason |

Jason I personally want to use the ROC Ripcord head badly, but don't want him to read as ROC Ripcord so strongly--hence touchup on facial paints and testing various headgear including shades. Stalker is still ongoing, for the last several months. Just can't seem to satisfy my own main wants for this figure//character while still getting most peoples to identify him as GI Joe Stalker. I still believe I can crack the code--just testing what personal want(s) I'm willing to give up... I've been sold on the newer Retro RB head for my T13 since it came out. In my T13, he's a Rawhide with Tunnel Rat and Falcon, hence younger, and all other available heads always looked too old. I need to sculpt on a thick taller neck, based on that last photo though... 2022-04-27_02-53-34 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr As berets and GI Joe, I am in conflict. Berets are so iconic for 80s ARAH Joes, but honestly need to go away for 21st century action-ready figures. I at least kept 1 beret* for Flint who in my T13 is more of a onbase character (ergo geared down as well). For Stalker, I think it's hard to get away from the beret despite their being several Hasbro figures of him sporting the knit cap look: 2022-04-27_01-55-57 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr 2022-04-17_03-38-02 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr *T13 visual rule 6: no doubling up on headgear style. If lidded caps, must be somewhat distinct, ie GungHo's 5 pt Marine cover I'm continuing T13 work in the next few months. I'm favoring waiting to get finished before updating this thread with too much work in progress. Lots of test and study photos will be uploaded more frequently on Flickr (https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjzKbFq), but will occasionally post neato test pics here as i go. And always open to comments questions suggestions. PhotoGrid_Plus_1649584386529 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr

The Joes are as much superheroes as they are soldiers. IMO, they can be afforded a bit of ridiculousness in their outfits.

Revisiting these guys now is interesting now that those influences are less current. How to keep them from becoming too outdated is a challenge that is taking some time. Tapping back to some more vintage nods, as well as getting some style and build cohesion based on a set 2009-2013 era may be key, especially when that era builds its own nostalgia base a few years from now. Making the set figures well built, well proportioned, and well painted should help I think. That's the goal at least, for the next few months. Lots of words here. Sorry. New updates/pics aren't finished enough yet. But while searching old photos from dropbox, found pics of my t13 way before they were ready to be shared (and when builds were constantly being changed... CIMG2975 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr This one is from Jan 2010, before started using Samsung phone cameras, controlled lighting, and post processing. This is when I first made the switch for Stalker to the ROC bdu's. Soon after, i looked to ditch the beret. CIMG2976 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Lots of black! Was very cool at the time though. Might become cool again? Can afford a few color highlights for btter posterity? Unfortunately these are some of the better photos i took during those early years, with decent enough lighting and exposure to play with in post: 2022-05-14_01-35-20 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr |

Looking forward to seeing where you?ll go with this. An aesthetic that builds off of the 2009-2013 years is welcome in my book. I only realized what fun ROC fodder could be after POC showed us the light. I may have to revisit my customs from that era at some point. Those were good times for exploring how figures could look a bit more modern.
Your first page is fun to revisit. Still admiring that T13 group. Also, that shot of Stalker posed like the Sideshow version is gold! |
