made this for my wife's birthday. not happy with this one and so glad its done. the plastic was so soft when the feet were plugged in the legs split. any gun would pull the hands off so i used a sword and prayed a bit. the paint doesnt stick no matter what i do. this thing was painted 3 times. any movement and the paint rubs off so its basically a statue. she loved it though even with all the warnings that come with it so thats all that matters.
see it and more here: https://www.facebook.com/pg/Mach-5-C...=page_internal thanks Last edited by Voice of Reason; 12-22-2018 at 10:07 PM.. |

Overall, a great execution. I think you are ready to experiment with other paint (try citadel or vallejo0 but dont be discouraged. You have a good eye for paint apps.

thanks. i went through a few brands of paint when i did this. the one that stuck the best was tamiya but even at that i had to put two layers on to get it to stick. so it looks kinda thick, which i dont like.
this was the last one of the three i did and i literally got it done the night before her birthday so my wiggle room was ate up by re-doing this thing so many times and the clean up work i had to go with the flashing on it and plastic splitting. i was about to take it to work and have it prepped and painted there (i manage a body shop) since i didnt have those colors of automobile paint at home. do you have a go to paint brand you prefer? i just go with a color as opposed to a brand because i hate mixing paint. so whoever makes a color i need/like i just buy that. and if that dont work i just mix a small batch of paint at work. |

I think you've done a good job, I'm experimenting with water-based revell paints, I also use tamiya sometimes and it sticks pretty well, I insist, good job!!!

I use a spray on lacquer to help seal the paint on my customs... I love it 100% and won't make a custom figure without it.
You can get flat or gloss. I prefer the flat.

i have some tamiya flat clear i like and for a light shine i use floor wax. with this custom i just left the paint alone, i wanted it to be kinda shiny like metal-ish armor. plus i wasnt going to bother with a clear coat since the paint comes off this figure so easy. you can almost peal off sections. i didnt want to rough up the surface to much and mess up the texture of the piece and primers just lift off also.
thanks for info and suggestions guys. i've never tried water based paints yet. the body shop i am at is still solvent based. the one i was at before that was water based and never thought to give it a try. i have used ink paints and they work well but they tend to be very dark. at least the few i tried to experiment were. |
