H.I.S.S.-A
Cobra High-Speed Sentry – Armoured The H.I.S.S. is not a tank. Yes, it has tracks, carries some good firepower and is maneuverable in the battlefield. But tanks are, by definition, armoured vehicles and the H.I.S.S.'s glass canopy precludes it from meeting the definition. No vehicle on the front line of combat is going to last long if its driver can be killed with a round of .50 BMG. And the open-top turret doesn't help either, it would be too easy to lob a grenade into it. Hasbro never called it a tank, of course, that's something that fans added themselves. To make the H.I.S.S. into an actual H.I.S.S. tank, I bought a couple of 3D-printed parts intended just for that purposes: an armoured canopy, and an armoured turret cover. I had to modify the turret cover, since its design is to replace the turret rather than cover it. So I had to cut out the front of it to fit in the turret. Reproduction stickers from Toyhax.com complete the look. I call it a H.I.S.S.-A both to reflect that it's a new model of the vehicle, and to indicate that it's armoured. The pics also feature two custom figures – the Strike Viper as the driver and a Cobra Dragoon on the back. Body and turret assembly – Cobra H.I.S.S. That's cool. I was contemplating getting them too. Looks good. I'm guessing you got it in black and didn't have to paint anything?
Can you post close ups of what you had to cut on the turret cover? Maybe you should send that to the creator so he might consider making them with the modification you did on it.

It's in black but I gave it a couple of coats of black paint anyway to make it fit better with the original parts. I'll see about some additional pics.

Love the work, and how they came out. I planned to buy some of these for my missile launching turret versions.
Looks like you bought one or two of the three styles he has available. I think I like the more Resolute one he has on the website for sale myself. Last edited by chuckles32; 07-25-2018 at 12:30 PM.. |

That is not bad. I have always been on the fence about the armored canopy for the original HiSS - but you made it look pretty good.

Hey all,
I'm Ian, designer of the armored canopy and turret cover at Yetibrew Design on Shapeways. I'm very happy that you like your purchase and love what you've done with your HISS. Based on the comments on the thread, I will make a version of the cover that fits in the existing turret hole. That said, since I work a day job, it may take be a few weeks until I can make it available for sale on my Shapeways store. Have a great day! |
