Introducing My Dragonfly Longbow …OR….Nunchuck Apache!
(Thanks for the name Books!) So once upon a time I was a kid and great admirer of GI Joe among other toys. Time marches on I become a collector with varying degrees of engagement and interest over the years. I get older but don’t grow up. Eventually I get married, house, kids, yadda, yadda yadda. Most of my stuff is in the garage in boxes. I figure with being a civil engineer with projects to put to pavement, public outreach, being dad of two girls that are in girl scouts, gymnastics, property management, union stuff, house work, and raising my wife my stuff has no time for me. It’s safe in the garage. Well…my youngest is very curious and discovered my stash… The same kid that loves my little pony, coloring books, barbie, strawberry shortcake, shopkins, LOLs, and slime…LOVES dad’s Joes and they have VEHICLES!!! So with me being frugal + Toys R Us closing = buying opportunity for more “Joe vehicles”. It kinda seems like some toy lines are really colluding to be incorporated with the Joes. I mean I see some awesome detailed vehicles with meh action figures. So the “meh” guys become canon fodder! Mutant attack; cannon fodder. Zombie attack: cannon fodder! Crazy robot attack: Cannon fodder!! Ruthless Terrorist Attack: CANNON FODDER!!! But in this 21st century, my adult child has been enabled by various Kickstarters which generate worthy successors to my beloved GI Joes. The likes of Marauder gun runners have added to the depths of my action figure love. Turns out, it’s genetic. My two girls earned some Valkyries for their own collections. So with Valkyrie love new to my home, and Toys R Us opportunity, I bought “boy” toys for my girls…. And a Helicopter for dad…. …That was then taken by one of my girls… …And so dad bought another one…that was taken by the other girl… …And third times the charm, I got a toy for me!!! Good dad. So I thought wow this black helicopter would look cool as a new OD green dragonfly. But I didn’t want it to look like the other customs online. So figured I would give tiger stripe camouflage a try. But how to do this? I thought. Rip masking tape and apply to the plastic for masking was my solution. I was going for the reverse shading you see on tiger sharks i.e. dark on top, lighter on the bottom, stripes in the middle. As part of the Process my youngest decided she wanted to trade me for the Finished Chopper. I’m an enabler….moving on… Took it apart, masked, painted, boofed, repainted, clear coat, second guess painting canopy, proceed with masking and painting canopy, clear coat, reassemble, apply stickers, Enjoy! |

Wow this turned out great! I like how you combined the black and camo design on the cockpit framing.
