I didn't really like the 25th Spirit build but liked how true to the vintage it was. However, the things I didn't like was the headsculpt and his feet. Since I can't find matching colored feet, I decided to do what I did.
Parts: arms, head, and legs - proto 50th Spirit from China body - 25th Spirit webgear - 25th Spirit modified so knife sheath is functional I don't know why his face is so shiny. That's just how it came. If someone has the retail one can you check if it's shiny? If it's not, then anyone got an extra? The skin tone on the head is different than his arms so if anyone has an extra 50th and can check, that would be great. functional knife sheath

Just get some flat clear coat spray and lightly hit his head with a blast, it will tone down the shiney plastic well.

Nice work on this figure! The mix of parts work better than I would have thought, and without repainting I assume.
I only issue I have, not shown in these pics, is likely the figure is pretty short, given use of the first Shipwreck torso and the city strike Snake Eyes legs. It's also the problem with the orig 25th. Makes it hard to have him standind with fellow 1984 modern Joe figures. Still, your version uses the best sculpted parts available, and relative heights are mostly my internal demons. But I bring this up because you and OB always seem to figure out how to fix these sort of things, so the rest of us can steal freely. I pulled out my store-bought 50th Spirit to check on that head shine. Mine's got typical not overly shine to it. The head is cast black, so the face has that normal sheen of paint to it. I've always used Testors Dullcote Lacquer from Hobby Lobby for matte finishes. Works spectacularly on non-painted areas, but still works well enough on factory painted areas. It dries quickly so you can see effectivness quickly as well. If you don't want to paint, it wouldn't hurt to give the face a good gentle soap wash to see if that helps. |

Thanks for the suggestions. The only painting required was the flesh tone on his neck and upper arm. I didn't repaint the face cause I would probably make thing worse. J might tty the dullcote and see when I have a chance.

That looks really good. I tried it to see how the skin tone matched up, but i see that it only takes a little paint to actually work. Did you do something to tighten the arms at the elbow? When i tried that combination, it was a really loose fit between upper and lower arms.

As far as a loose fit at the elbow joints, I usually use a tiny dab of hot glue to tighten things up

I just put him beside some of my other customs and he's not actually too short. May just a very little bit but not something that would affect his display ability.
