My take on Hasbro's Vypra ninja twins. Instead of them being identical twins who are both swordsmith/guardians and dress like Jinx, they are non-identical twins with unique looks.
Mayumai is the smaller, more modestly dressed character, and is the swordsmith. This figure only has two points of articulation, so I threw in the work table to provide some environment. Kurenai is the taller, more dynamic character, and is the temple guardian. Last edited by Clockwise; 06-17-2018 at 07:38 AM.. |

Smooth paints! I recognize the red head from a cartoon that didn't last very long- they had cool vehicles

Thanks.
The redhead figure is just a NS Scarlett. |

Wow! I love this.
Are they super articulated? Nope. Are they super realistically painted? Nope.... But you used such weird figures, and I don't even recognize most of the parts lol. I hope you don't find this offensive, but were these figures fodder project, or is this your style that you like doing? I like the clean paint. Has a cool vibe. Great work. |

Thanks, and no, I'm not offended at all. These are built around fodder parts.
I work in ARAH, NS, and modern era formats, plus Marvel/DC, Indiana Jones, and Star Wars. I pull from almost any 1:18 format. And I also try to use up whatever junk parts I acquire. With the Mayumai figure, for example, I used up the last bits (waist/legs) of an '80 Bespin Leia figure. Most customizers wouldn't see that as any sort of accomplishment, but I do. It's like using Spam to cook with instead of a real meat. A Spam omelet will never be as good as a ham one would have been, but you got to use Spam! I'm also not opposed to figures with less articulation. Take the legs on Kurenai, for example. The figure's going to be displayed on a shelf, so I don't see the need to have articulation points around the knee to interrupt the flow of the sculpt. I prefer the fluidity of body parts that can't have the articulation hidden by gear or the uniform. But, again, that's me. There is a part of me that would like to dabble in the premium format figures, like the HACKS or Marauder stuff. But until I run out of junk parts to try and salvage, it's unlikely to happen. Working with the junk parts also forces me to do a lot of sculpting, which I've started to enjoy over the last few years. |

Nice man. Thanks for the insights to your creative process.
I also can't really afford "Premium" figures, but have, over several years, collected a bizarre wide range of "discounted, on sale, garage sale" mish mash of figures. I love combining every single line to make a "Custom". I didn't realize that about the Bespin Leia figure! haha, you're right that is an accomplishment So I appreciate your idea of "Spam' haha... And, I find your method true for my own approach to customizing. I have been sculpting more and more, and it's one of the most enjoyable aspects. This is why I love this hobby, and this forum. Everyones got their own artistic idea as to what a "Custom Figure" is. And while I respect 6" and other scales, I find this scale the most beautiful because it's so limited yet limitless if you're creative. Anyways, I hope you post more customs. I befriended you in hopes I don't miss your stuff. I'm in the process of organizing all my old stuff, rehosting them online, and getting more active |
