Nicely done. I would have done the same thing, have #1000 be my first Joe. My first was Flash and I have the same fond memories as you do with your Short Fuze. Heres to the next 1000!!!

It's a simple thing, but once I came up with the collar/torso combo that motivated me to redo all my OG13. The issues that I had with the 25th versions of the OG13 were the torso, the skinny legs on all the figures prior to Zap, the inconsistent colors and the hands. I tried to address all of those points with my customs. The rest of the OG13 are coming up next. OG

I'm glad you used that SE torso. It looks much better than the 25th standard torso. Also, as others have mentioned, the collar is a nice touch. Great custom as always!
However . . . . . I hate to break it to you, but this is not (I repeat not) a modern custom of your first G.I. Joe toy. There's one detail that you're lacking, and I just don't think that you'll be satisfied until you change out this one detail (an no, I'm not talking about a broken thumb!). You can not pay homage to your very first G.I. Joe figure until you correct this one, little detail! Jason |

HA!!
Nope. Take a closer look at an '82 Short-Fuze and compare it to your custom. There's one detail that is different. It'll mean swapping something out. I'll keep you guessing. BTW, Short-Fuze was one of my favorite O13. I think it was because he came with that cool Mortar! Jason |

I was talking about the closed handle Mortar, aka "The Thumb Breaker!" Between trying to get Short-Fuze to hold his Mortar and Grunt to hold his M16, I don't know which '82 figure broke more thumbs!! It's a great custom, no matter which version of the mortar you use. I'm surprised no one has customized that mortar with an adjustable base! Jason |

OB: Congratulations on 1000 customs. It's a staggering number of work and photos. Thanks so much for sharing all these!
Short-Fuse: I'll have to see at first I was little underwhelmed. But after studying this closer over the last few days, there are a whole lot of great things going on this guy. The torso change is just brilliant. It works a great replacement for the first 25th Anniversary Snake Eyes, in that it's bit taller, has the right look/sculpt, and has much smoother profile change from upper to lower torso--perfect for Zap and SF with their particular webgear where this torso joint is so exposed. I was testing this out on the Grunt/Stalker/SE gear, and it looks like it works for that webgear as well (I was afraid the webgear would be too short, as it is on the 30th ShockTrooper torso). I may have to stock up on fodder of this torso myself—before a sudden demand erupts. The old arms appear to work well on the updated torso--did you crack the torso open and use the old shoulder pegs, or cut the arms and place them on the new torso shoulder pegs? Also, that torso has the double ball peg for the head, correct? Did you cut off the second peg or use it (hence the added collar)? The ball-jointed hands are awesome. I was always thinking of doing this, but thought that losing the old ribbed cuffs wouldn't be right. This figure shows that the arms look just fine without the old ribbed cuffs, and definitely benefit from the added hand articulation. Can I ask where the hands come from? The look like 50th Gung-ho or Outback. And as always, the paint is top notch. Looks clean, streamlined, and true to the original. I guess we'll find out how you'll handle the different shades of green. I'm wondering if you'll follow the originals, keep them all one uniform shade, or something else (I' toyed with the idea of infantry as one shade, artillery as another--to revisionist?) Finally, I like how you steered away from the eyeglasses for yours. I've got them on all mine--just to get head/facial variety amonst the 13--but based on your story, I can now relate on why many like to leave the eyewear out (Breaker's beard is similar). I'm a big fan of O13 figures, and classic takes using modern parts, so I am really looking forward to the next few reveals. I had planned on taking and posting more pics of my own O13 collections these next few months, but now I want to see what you've got next beforehand. Good timing man! Thanks again OB! Looking forward to the next 1000... |

Simple yet elegant. You need to post a thread about the last 10 figures you had done, I feel I might have missed one or two from this recent batch.
