#996 – GI Joe Trooper (Sunbow)
When I was a kid, I had only a handful of GI joe comics. For me, GI Joe was about the toys and the Sunbow cartoon. The Green Shirt troopers were ubiquitous on the show and so GI Joe having generic soldiers to swell their ranks was a perfectly normal thing to me growing up. It wasn't until I read the entire original comic series as an adult that I realized that Green Shirts were not in every version of the story. The 25th Green Shirts were a valiant effort at the time, but I find them lacking now. Pretty much every part of them has a better sculpted and articulated counterpart now. For my custom, the only thing that I kept from the original figures is the web gear. However, I wanted them to look like the cartoon, so I avoided parts that had too much detail, pouches and armor. Head: MTF Torso. Legs: ROC Pit Commando Upper arms: 25th Rock & Roll Lower arms: Roc Zartan

Love the paint, parts choice and overall figure. Don’t think that’s the DG Duke Head. Looks like MTF

Thanks guys. I have been wanting to make these troopers forever, but never got around to it. I'm thinking that the Marauder WW2 American harness will look good on these guys once it is produced.

I like the idea of Green Shirts as a support team, but not as front line defenders. Even as a kid, I thought the number of Green Shirts in battle took away from how awesome the G.I. Joe team is suppose to be.
You're customs of the Green Shirts are awesome though!! I love that you even painted the laser rifles! Your customs are like in my top 5 of customizers for inspiration. I was looking yesterday on Joecustoms and searched your username . . . HOLY SMOKES . . . there's like almost 800 custom figures you've submitted over the years!! And that's not even counting the custom vehicles and dioramas!! Some of these I had totally forgotten about. That Cobra Mountain is just amazing! Really wish you had a tutorial on that one. By the way, on the Green Shirts are those vintage ARAH helmets? Jason |

I never really cared for these guys in the toon until I got older, and then we got the 25th versions (meh). Your custom green shirts really are miles beyond what Hasbro tried to accomplish. Great job sir.

Nice! I always thought of the Green Shirt as those who were trying to make it to the Joe Team, but hadn't made the official roster yet.
