Yeah, the wrist sockets in the forearms of this figure are enormous, making most wrist pegs hopelessly too small. Add to that the lack of cuffs and the shortened forearm length and you end up with some serious problems getting a good set of hands installed on this figure. You can use hot glue in the socket then jam the wrist peg in while the hot glue is still malleable (you need to put Vaseline on the wrist peg so it doesn't bind up with the glue) but that still leaves you with a weird, short forearm.
I didn't bother with hot glue on mine. Instead, I used 50th Anniversary Heavy Duty (v13) hands for this. It's the same hands found on Roadblock (v23), Roadblock (v24), Roadblock (v25), Repeater (v4), Repeater (v5), Salvo (v3), Leatherneck (v9), and Bazooka (v4)...and possibly others. I used an Xacto knife to cut the wrist cuffs off of the Heavy Duty forearms. I didn't take any arm material with it, I just carefully took off only the cuffs. Then I took the cuffs and slid them onto the wrist pegs and inserted the now-cuffed wrist peg/hand sets into the forearms. The cuffs had a twofold effect. First, they fixed the shortened forearm and awkward transition from arm-to-hand. Second, they prevented full insertion of the wrist peg into the forearm, meaning the hands weren't able to flop around loosely because the wrist peg was actually making good contact with the narrower "front" part of the wrist socket. It's not as secure as a properly-designed forearm with built-in cuff would be, but it's rugged enough for play. A determined child could certainly remove the hand still but my kids have been playing with this Roadblock figure for about a year now with no accidental hand removal. If you know of a good glue that would actually hold the cuff to the forearm, you would have a total fix. I just don't know of a glue that would truly bond the two parts together. |

The best hands for him are the Retaliation 3 pack Roadblock (from the pack with Kamakura and Beachhead). These hands are designed specifically for that same mold.

Thank you for the detailed response. The problem is all the listed figures are rarer/more expensive than this Roadblock (well maybe not Blue Bazooka) it’s like throwing good money after bad. Which is a shame, as I really like the sculpt and I can accept the gimped legs. I wonder if careful surgery could be performed on the hand???

I bought a few broken Heavy Duty figures from a Chinese seller on eBay that consisted only of torsos/arms/hands and used those. If you keep a lookout for fodder figures on eBay you may get lucky. You can also post your fodder needs on the fodder trade thread here on the 'Tank.

Ha! I can't solve everything with 3d printing. Hot glue fill is generally your best bet for that type of thing anyway. I just wish MJ had made his peg sizes work with Joes. I was looking forward to converting nearly every swivel wristed figure to MTF hands but once I got them in-hand I found out what a foolish dream that had been.

Nope, I've tried hand swaps on a few figures (male and female figures) and I have trimmed the MTF wrist pegs' lengths as well, but the hand swaps don't work because the posts are not thick enough. Same for lower arm swaps not working due to elbow posts being too scrawny. I know some guys have gone ahead with sub-optimally-fitting swaps like that. I'm speaking specifically here of people replacing DATD Flint's lower arms with MTF rolled-up black sleeves to ditch the crappy flesh tone paint, which is something I tried and found to be unacceptably ill-fitting. But my customs end up in kids' hands so I can't tolerate a loose fit. By that I mean, for example, a forearm that doesn't really "fall out" of the bicep's socket but which can slide up and down in the socket and wobbles around when handled. If I want an acceptable fit, I need to fill the socket with hot glue, grease up the forearm, and then spend time cleaning up excess hot glue that oozed out during installation and then clean off the lubricant from the forearm. And it's just a shame that all of that is necessary when they could have just beefed it up a smidge and made it work natively. It's not quite as frustrating as the difference between shoulder pegs between Joes and MTF, but that's just another unfortunate hurdle that prevents drop-in customizing. Heads are the only MTF body parts that are generally natively swappable with Joes. Some Joe pieces will accept the MTF wrist/elbow pegs better than others, and maybe you've found some that work, but on the whole I find the pegs are just too skinny - most particularly for the Valkyries. And if we're being honest, that skinny wrist peg actually ends up breaking more often than it should. For example, I've snapped a few unarmored glove wrist pegs for Valkyries just by trying to install them on a not-quite-hot-enough forearm after having heated the forearm to pull the armored glove off. It needs a second hot water bath just to insert the new hand which is kind of unfortunate as well. A thicker peg would have made for better Joe-compatibility and better universal durability. I don't mean to turn this into an MTF gripe session. Just saying... The MTF body parts were so close to being a lot more readily useful than they ended up being. Why oh why did MJ create arbitrary new dimensions for all of the arm-related pegs?
