Guys, sorry I wasn't able to participate in the feed back all day. In mornings and days I only access the forums through my phone or tablet, and hate typing on either of those devices. So my posts are usually limited to late nights, after work and after a few hours of TV and customizing.
FredVIII and Edgecrusher: Looks like the painted steel toe plate was on the single carded version (V16), which either I never got, or he became fodder. Edgecrusher when you brought this up, at first I wasn’t sure why I didn’t repaint this bit silver—but have verified that there is actually no sculpted toe plate on the boot. Instead, I repainted the strap near the ankle joint. This is not depicted in the 5-pack photo, but in the variant head photo of post #68 which were actually taken a few weeks earlier. The center Viper is from v20 5-pack of 2009, which is my 25th style version of choice as well. But I prefer that they not paint the toe silver since it wasn’t sculpted on. And FredVIII is probably correct that the feet should be swappable, since they should be the same foot and leg molds. I got my extra POC//30th Viper head and helmets from paraviper//cobra1678 today. I ordered them last Thurs night at 1am, and they got delivered Saturday late morning—to my work office (and I didn’t get back to the office until today). So, fast shipping, the the casts are excellent (the cast metallic gold head is replacing the painted one in the 5-pack photo), and the bonus heads (buy 3 get surprise bonus) are going to be very useful as well. This was my first transaction with him, and I couldn’t be more pleased! With the extra viper helmets, I will be able to re-create FredVIII’s head+helmet combo, and put it on the body so we can all see what’s what with that. I’ve also roughed out two other head alternates with that classic helmet, and can play with any other suggestions you all might have. I also got some extra POC//30th Trooper helmets with the sculpted officer chevron which jlw515 has been raving about--they indeed fantastic and hope to show how I use those very soon. DerStahlhelm: I had no plans in the immediate future for some 5-group shots with my updated Tele-Viper (unchanged since post #12). But these ideas get thrown out here, and they stick in my head, and then a few weeks later…Also, I don’t think I was totally sold on the concept case build. The vest would have been too short on the 30th torso. Of course if it was at retail and at retail prices, I would likely have bought a few and tweak as usual. DerStahlhelm & Nighthawk: Of the unreleased Concept Case Cobras you mentioned, I most regret the updated Snow Serpent not being released (to compliment the updated Eel). Just the other day I was set on making a custom with ROC fodder in hand, but I guess that sculpt was only available as FSS (Blizzard or Big Bear)—too expensive for my taste, especially for custom fodder. Maybe at $19.99, but that wouldn’t be likely, would it? Stljoe, cavscout, Nighthawk: I appreciate the compliments. Just one year ago, I would have never imagined being so fascinated with 86 Vipers or taking more pictures with them, but here we are… Some more five pack ideas I want to photograph are on the way. Early test shots are on my flickr page, but with some new cast parts I got, those sets will be revised this week/weekend--unless my mind is blown apart by the upcoming Toyfair reveals. |

Look forward to seeing those paraviper//cobra1678 parts and the good use you put them to even more, HHFF!

One of the colors I found recently is a military OD type of green dye. I was thinking of doing some Viper helmets Steel Brigade helmets in this color I also thought about doing some gold metallic Steel Brigade helmets? I'm open to suggestions on different Viper face shield colors I don't know what would go good with green helmets maybe silver? If anybody has suggestions let me know.

I would even buy some regular silver cast heads. When I was removing the helmets from the heads from my originals, I noticed that two of those heads were cracked, with one cracked through/near the left eye before I even started the helmet removal process. Another suggestion would be to have a helmet cast without the guide notch to the back of the head, for using that helmet with other alternate heads. Final suggestion would be to cut away the glue on the head prior to making the casts, for a tighter fit between the two pieces. |

Some more Viper alternate head looks. First up, Cobra Trooper heads: Classic 25th (right) and 30th//POC (left):
gCobra_25th_86-1Viper2_2019-0216bb by J Perez, on Flickr POC//30th needed the hair cut off, and little off the ears to keep the cheek plates tighter to the face without gluing down. Both heads headed a healthy sanding down at the top and back. Classic head is a little narrow, and needed a little filler clay or other to fill the helmet out. POC//30th is sporting the paraviper cast helmet, while center Viper has the paraviper gold cast head. Second, some alternates with less skin exposed: 30th/POC Alley Viper//Night Viper (right) and 25th Classic Firefly (left): gCobra_25th_86-1Viper2_2019-0216ab by J Perez, on Flickr The classic Firefly required the least amount of cutting down and sanding (need only work down the two mask seams), and has a nice width to fill out the helmet—but might also be a little squat vertically. Also the mask was sculpted fairly smooth without wrinkles and folds. The Alley/Night Viper head is very narrow and even with filler clay or other may not look right with the helmet, but shows the least skin. Again, left helmet is the helmet cast from paraviper and middle head is the cast head. All blues on these figures painted Citadel Kastor Blue for instant swapping. Here’s a composite of these recent head/helmet combos for comparisons: gCobra_25th_86-1Viper2_2019-0216ca by J Perez, on Flickr And another composite with previous combos: gCobra_25th_86-1Viper2_2019-0216da by J Perez, on Flickr At this point, my HHFF Cobra shelf will still keep the 30th/POC look for its Vipers. These different looks are fun and neat, but haven't fully won me over. But I'll keep these around in my fodder bin, just in case. |

Well, as much as it pains me to say this, I think the chrome-dome head fits that helmet design the best.
The Marauder helmet is a nice alternative, but I think it would look better with the wider Viper chrome-dome head. However, as mentioned before, that Duke helmet is an awesome "specialty/MOS" alternate Viper helmet. Jason |

I like this. Plus it answers the timeless question: “What are the goggles for?”

I love the idea of a dark silver--that is my preferred standard for my 50th/POC blue/red vipers using Citadel Leadbelcher for now. I also have painted one with a Molotow Metallic Black (which is coming out more as a super dark silver), but that thing seems like it needs a week or more to fully cure. A cast metallic red is also a great idea ala the FSS Sonic Viper (or similar). That inspired my desert (grey) Viper, and was also originally supposed to go to my jungle (black viper)--and the reason that guy had metallic red grenades and belt buckle.
