I would stay with the original concept by keeping him all one color, which was meant to cut costs for Hasbro. I'd go with the darkest green possible.

Well, so much for the mystery. Obviously I had access to all those links, just wanted others to have a little fun Joe surfing the internet themselves. But maybe we can have fun delving into his backstory? Technically Kick Start is more mysterious than Snake Eyes and Shooter at this point, so again: Who is...KICK START??? Find out in Marvel Comics??

I saw the Breaker head photo of these a while back, in the JoeCustoms forums, posted 2014 from the late great Goggles of Declassified.
JoeCustoms.com > View topic - Unreleased original head for Breaker. PICS. This inspired me to play with other heads from 1983 and 1984 for some of the OG13 back in 2014-2015, along width adding more paint apps. GiJoe_O13-ClassicOring_2015-0704 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Note the elbows on Zap and Steeler. They were painted with that raw Vallejo 70.882 Middlestone I mentioned in my last post with the rest of the base body unpainted. I had trouble with the helmets because the paint would crack and flake off when removing and replacing the helmet. The use of the same heads for many of the figures has always been a sore spot for me (other than the 3 shades of green randomly assigned to character), while I love the use of the same body parts for everything else. I understood the minimal "parts" since Hasbro only greenlit the original run if every figure and vehicle could retail for a combined sum of (less than) $100. They wanted every fan to have the opportunity to collect the full line, so I can see where reusing molds would allow that. It just seems like they would've had Hector Garrido remove Breaker's beard and Zap's mustache on the card art since each of them had gear that set them apart from, say, Grunt and Short-Fuse. |

That's a great-looking formation!

Anyway, below SE uses the body of the ToysRUS 6-pack greenshirt--one of the darkest green molds there is and conveniently in quasi OG13 style (they changed up the legs and hips at the time) I quickly painted up the hands and pouches black, but kept the original light green to test it out (and save time). There are some post-processing vintage effects going on as well, to help all dial back the clock on these guys, and try to empower some eighties authenticity to this. 20210704_191322 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr |
