HHFF,
Oh man! That Stalker turned out amazing. So, many cool things going on with this figure. I love the nods to the comic book rendition with the red turtle neck and the yellowish-brown accessories. Also, even though it's not exactly the same weapon, I can't help but sense a little nod to the comics with that scope on the rifle. One of my favorite comic pictures will always be the image of Stalker with that Mike One Six w/ Starlight scope, Tommy, and Snake Eyes w/ the M60. Then, in usual HHFF fashion, you throw out a tease for another figure (unless I missed the update - I'll go back and look) with Snake Eyes. The lighting/editing on that final cardback pic is perfect. Where in the world did you get that left hand? That is perfect! Did the hand come from one of those 1:18 hand sets? I've got one of those I acquired from a parts lot buy years ago. Anyway, top notch work as usual. Jason |

The finished Stalker looks fabulous, man. The work on the head sculpt, the parts used, the paints... It all came together spectacularly! Kudos on another job well done!

Gonna echo Jason and Todd. This Stalker is a really nice homage to the comics. I’ve been wanting to modify that Resolute/30th head for ages, and you’ve provided wonderful inspiration there, but also on the webgear and the colors. I think you’ve convinced me to work on some vintage-inspired Joes again. You also did a great job matching the card art. Fantastic stuff man!

HAWK (PIT Commander) [1984 Style Concept]
20210403_003718 (2) by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr BUILD: • Torso, upper legs, upper arms: 50th Firefly • Lower Legs, Lower Arms: 50th Hit N Run • Head: 50th General Hawk • Webgear: 25th Copperhead • Belt: Marvel Gamerverse Civil Warrior Paints: Tamiya Deep Green, Tamiya Flat Flesh, Testors Wood NOTES: Previewed Jan 2021 with my 40th Stalker overview, here is the finished version of Col. Hawk. Along with my recent Scarlett and Stalker 40th, this figure is for use with display and photos outside of my OG13 collections—particularly with my figure updates to characters from 1983 to 1985 (link) and classic ultimate versions of my Top 13 Joes. The figure is inspired by his comic book look between issues 25 and 41, and his look as drawn by artist Frank Springer. I have to say that working on this figure and pouring through the comics of those times has given me much greater appreciation for Frank Springer’s work on the comic, which honestly I didn’t like back then. PhotoGrid_Plus_1617432602909 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr My previous version of this figure tried to use the 50th Hit N Run torso, but I was unhappy with that sculpt—the collar was too big and bulky, the upper and lower height proportions seemed off, the sculpted belt too high, and issues with sculpting the infills where the Lifeline accessories were removed. I was hoping to use the 50th Firefly or Flint torso and happened to find a 50th Firefly at a nice price ($20!) in St. Louis last March. 2021-04-04_02-45-52 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Turtleneck club? I was a little worried about overuse of this torso in my Joe collection (this would be its 6th use), but it is one of the top 3 (along with the POC Shock Trooper and POC Snake Eyes), and most applicable having a collar. The high turtleneck is always an issue, and for this one I again cut the height down. Hasbro should really take the mold and fill that collar height down for all future use (as I understand it, you can modify a mold once and infilling it instead of cutting into seems more doable). But even unmodified, Hasbro needs to release this torso FAST in the form of Flint or Firefly to get me back on their Retro line. 20210325_213017 (1) by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Hawk: 1982, 1984, 1986 While working on a new flesh painting process to replace using Testors (going extinct) or Vallejo (not durable enough), the last few weeks I was also toying with using the same legs and belt as my Hawk 86 and using the same grey for the boots and belt. The idea was to make this 84 version very close to the 86 version just without the leather jacket. I think if I started with the grey instead of the tan I would have stayed with the grey, and I stayed with my initial tan scheme. I also like the sculpting of the 50th legs better so I stayed with those as well (also switched my Duke back to these legs). PhotoGrid_Plus_1617430007537 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr A bigger reason to stay with tan accessories was to match up better with my updated classic Scarlett and Stalker, both who inspired the making of this Hawk. The poses above were inspired by their respective entries in the Marvel Order of Battle Miniseries. For Hawk’s hair color, I decided to go with a mix of Testors Dark Tan and Wood to make him not quite blonde and not quite brunette, which felt most appropriate for this transition figure between his 82 and 86 ones. Before this, I was definitely in the camp of Hawk being a blonde. However, after posing these one alongside Duke (see later down the post), I wanted more visual distinction between the two. I definitely understand why the toy designers changed his hair color changed for his true 1986 release. From my previous Scarlett entry From my previous Stalker entry I included an early version of this Hawk in my Stalker entry b/c I didn’t want to simply recreate the pic from the previous Scarlett entry. Same applies for this Hawk entry, and I wanted to go back to what inspired the four-figure pose in the Stalker entry: the walk-off shot near the end of the 2009 Rise of Cobra movie that included all four of these characters but in movie style. For the Stalker entry I almost included Duke to go with my favored 5-figure 16:9 shot, but I cut him out at the last hour to keep it strictly OG13. For this group shot of this Hawk entry, I decided to replace Breaker with Gung-Ho. Although Breaker is OG13, I don’t have or plan an updated classic version of him, and my 25th classic style version is just way too short and undersculpted with all “50th” style classic figures. Plus using Gung-Ho here makes the shot consist of my T13 (top 13 figures) for the years 1982-1984, in ultimate classic style—something I need for my photo collection (along with the latter half in the near future). 2021-03-26_05-25-32 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Over the last few weeks while finalizing Hawk, I began working on the group shot, testing out the right lighting (working both very light Scarlett and Gung-Ho against very dark Snake Eyes) and the figure formation/staggering (very tall Roadblock and Gung-Ho against short Scarlett). The test group shot sessions also worked as color and size tests for finalizing Hawks colors and part use. Above was the final shot of the testing (and almost the true final shot). 20210326_012020 (2) by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr And above is my final shot. I had a notion of trying to set up a background for this, but really liked how this came out. I guess after a few years of these, no background use has really become my trademark look. My focus has always been on these figures to finest details, and I don’t really want to go down that rabbit hole with backgrounds right now. Maybe I’ll work on backgrounds and photos with backgrounds in my next phase in the next few years, when I finished tweaking all my figures… 20210326_012020 (1) by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Snyder Cut Version (streaming now!) 2021-04-04_01-10-03 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr 20210326_012020 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Raw Unprocessed Shot If the previous photos above looked processed, I won’t deny that—but above is the unprocessed shot for reference. I do like to clean things up for my finals, including sharpening and smoothing (viewing 1/18” scale figures on large screens, you are basically through a magnifying glass), inject a little more color (but lately been trying to hold that back), as well as improve the light//dark tones for better viewing on either bright and dim screens. I do struggle with color because of the difference in vividness on all my comparison devices (tablet, TV, computer monitors), so I apologize to your eyes for previous photos… 20210316_004757 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Finally, I was messing around looking for a different way to fill up the thread thumbnail photo size/shape with a single figure to make him pop and without having to rotate the photo. Messing around with my tablet on my couch and thinking about early works of Joe Quesada—where he could put his images at pretty high rotated angles, using a weird computer-generated explosion graphic found on the interwebs, using bad image cutout processes on some apps, and using filters to smear/hide all the most offending imperfections, I came up with the image below. I don’t think I’ll be going this route in the future, but I was neat enough for use at this time (especially after a few months away). 2021-03-26_06-34-15 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr |

Awesome Take on Hawk man!!! There is no shame in using that torso. Too bad the mustache doesn't consider using it.

These are all great. I agree with 46 about the torso, that torso works amazingly so no shame in using it. These are the figures we deserve to have in our collections. Great work!
