Ok, first, how did I miss that post in 2019 with the JoyToy figures?! Nice!
Secondly, that Scarlett looks great! I think what I like the best is the subtle nod to the vintage figure with the red on the bandoleer/strap. Nice job on the parts and especially painting that Lady Jaye head. Jason The red on the bandolier wasn’t so subtle in this figure’s development. I considered that bit to be essential. During study, I also considered the Cobra Officer and Copperhead webgear for the shoulder pads. When testing for length and size of the choices, as I was about to cut the pad from the rest of the strap and knife I had a change of heart, and became determined to use the whole piece. The biggest problem was that the strap wasn’t necessarily designed for across the chest placement, and would require gluing down on other mods. So I let this one sit for a while til I had the gumption to do those mods (after finishing some other figures). |

For pic above, RnR head is one that came with the JoyToy Army Cavalry Regiment 5 pack. What is pictured is basically that set with some head mods. I painted the brunette beard blonde. I have played around with some more heads and helmets since this was taken, and continue to do so while keeping an eye out for new JoyToy stuff coming in the near future. |

The attached thumbnail with Scarlett between Snake Eyes and Stalker is ALL kinds of awesome. Great parts and colors.

Wasted most of perfectly good Sunday afternoon (cloudy, perfect for shooting figures). Napping.
Also, my extra Resolute Scarlett body from Ebay was not delivered to my work as I had been notified. That extra Scarlett body order also includes an extra Helix body (both headless), which is most fortunate for me since the legs are the same on both bodies and my Scarlett custom. So I went ahead and used my current in-hand Helix to fix the new Scarlett's broken leg. The Helix legs didn't have the tightness problem the Resolute legs had fitting up with the Renegades torso this time. I got a few more pictures in Sunday, for use in the JoeCustoms archive entry, but my V2 repaint will have to wait until later. First, Scarlett with her Joe Bros Stalker and Snake Eyes, my 30th modern versions and their original 30th versions. This V1 30th Scarlett was always envisioned to form this mini 3-pack, and will be grouped/displayed together somewhere on my shelf. I made sure to get this photo done today to take advantage of the cloudy daylight so Snake Eyes wouldn't wash out. 2020-03-22_09-39-33 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Second, Scarlett and her buddies from the first 25th Anniversary 5-pack. Would still love to get this as a 2022 40th Anniversary rebox. These are all my shelf versions--I've got repaints of most (still working on Roadblock along with Scarlett), which will stay in the display box. I'll throw pics of that in my other thread when it's done. 2020-03-22_09-38-09 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Finally, messing around with filters while laying on the couch when I probably should have been doing more dynamic pose shots while also fighting daylight timing. I guess I have the rest of the month for that. 2020-03-22_03-56-52 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr

SCARLETT 40TH TAKE 2
The extra fodder for my second Scarlett came in last week, so I was able to put together my second Scarlett to keep in the 25th Redux box. For this version, I went with the lighter Testors Dark Grey for the body suit. In my mind, I thought that the lighter color matched up better with the original 25th the purple comic version and the Resolute version. Based on photos below, it really didn’t closely match any of those, but still had the same spirit of a lighter tone. I don’t like to mix colors where paint is used at joints, so I’ll be sticking with the hue as shown. I’ve also switched the heads for now. As mentioned earlier, I’ve only got one of each head on hand, and kinda like each one for different reasons. On the Renegades head, I’ve added much needed eyeliner—maybe too much? Strange that the original figure was missing this detail, because all figures (even male) seem to have at least a painted upper eyelid line (same for Star Wars). I also felt I need to go wider out on the eyeliner because her eyes seemed too closely packed on the head. Shown below are the two figures—same exact build except for head: 20200330_184701~2 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr The biggest thing I need you all to know—especially if you are going to try this kitbash—is that the Resolute Scarlett legs and the ROC Helix legs ARE NOT EXACTLY THE SAME. Though they are likely based on the same original sculpt, the Resolute Scarlett legs are actually noticeably larger and taller than the ROC helix legs. See pic below. For the upper legs, they are very close to the same height, but the Res Scarlet pieces are wider looking from the front. They are not a good fit for the torso used here—they fit really tight, and don’t allow good rotation front and back, where it snapped the leg piece for my first trial, and a second trial proved that likely wasn’t a freak accident. The Helix legs on the other hand are actually a little loose, which some clear nail polish or Pledge floor finish will fix up. The knee pieces are also a little different as seen from the side, though they look the same in the front. The peg hole sizes are different, so clear nail polish or Pledge floor finish (or even a built up layer of brush applied superglue) will fix that if mixing up parts. It looks like the Helix knees add a little more height. 2020-03-29_09-58-41 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Finally, the lower legs are totally different in length. The grid paper in the photo background are 1/8” square, so we’re taking about a 1/8” difference. A close look shows that they might not really be of the same sculpt/mold, but it they are, the Helix version was then chopped short at the bottom. Based on above, you’ll really need to use the Helix legs for this custom. The Stiletto figure might also match but I’d have to verify. The thing that sucks on both is painting the black boots and kneepads to light colors, which took some time. You’ll definitely want to get a light primer down first (which I don’t normally do when using Testors as final color). The last thing is that you’ll only be needing pricey Resolute Scarlett for lower arms (so 3 different figures to make one). But you can switch those with 25th lower arms, or even Marauder Task Force arms to get wrist articulation. I haven’t tried either: I already bought TWO Resolute Scarlett figs for custom fodder (one now with broken leg), so I need to use them. One thing I will try is switching legs on my display Res Scarlett and Helix (repainting both) to see if I can get a final Resolute Scarlett that doesn’t tower over most of my Resolute Joe squad. RED FIVE STANDING BY [EACH OTHER]: 20200329_225636~5 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Comparison of 5 Scarletts, for checking height and colors and squint eye test. For this shot, I temporarily switched Scarlett 4’s legs back to the original Res Scarlett legs to show height comparison. Most surprising for me is that this version didn’t tower over the original 25th Scarlett. Must be the heels? Also in another thread, I swore I’d never show my custom shelf Resolute Scarlett with modded head (used from ROC Scarlett), but here it is, for size comparison with the Helix legs of Scarlett 2. Finally, in assembling this shot, Scarlett 3’ front lower torso piece finally broke—this was my original figure from childhood. Sad! I still have the missing broken piece: any tips on how to secure fix? 2020-04-02_11-41-28 by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Previous photos don’t really show the quiver on the back, so above is provided. The quiver is the cast of the Retaliation (Renegades?) Zartan, bought from either AVACs Lab or Raginspoon at a show (can’t verify since I don’t see it listed on either’s site right now). I figured it was a good way to hide how shoulder bandolier connects to the waist in the back (secret=they not connected). In the photo, the quiver is glued to the bandolier—and soon after broke loose. Since then, I’ve drilled two tiny holes in each piece and cut of the barrels of extra Dragunov rifles to use as pegs to better secure. GiJoe_25th_BattlePack1-40thRedux_2020-0403ab by HissHissFangFang, on Flickr Above represents the wish that started this whole Scarlett redux. For me, this will do (for now). http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...st-hasbro.html |
