This has been a work in progress for a few years. I started this project when I found out Hasbro considered doing a train for GI Joe but was canceled due to price concerns. A couple years later I saw a post by OreoBuilder of his train, and this gave me the ideal for the engine I wanted to use.
The first car I did was a couple ends that I could use on the cannon section of the Thunderclap. These end were scratch built from styrene sheets and extra parts I had laying around. When the cannon section is not in use the ends can be connected together and ran in a train. The engine is just a repaint of the Playmobil engine. One thing I like about this engine is that it is radio controlled and has sound. The gondola was next. This is another simple repaint using a G scale car. The crane is also a G scale car with just a simple repaint. I used LGB Brass G scale track for a couple reason. It is easy to find and it hold up for outside use. More cars will follow. All I need to do is find GI Joe stickers for the train. Last edited by don_csx; 08-28-2019 at 03:14 PM.. |

Awesome - I've been daydreaming of doing something similar since I saw Oreobuilder's, but I have too many projects, and those Playmobil trains aren't cheap. But damn, would I love my own train set. I love the use of the Thunderclap, too.

I always wanted something like this as a kid- I had little interest in electric trains specifically because they were too small for Joes. Great job!

Awesome! Seeing yours makes me want to dust mine off, add some wagons and play around with it some more. Terrific job!

That train is awesome. You should put it into a war diorama.
