Personal theory on Cobra Trooper pistol -
So that web gear isn?t designed to hold a bunch of equipment, or act as load-bearing like the Officer?s H harness is. The way it hooks to the belt in front, and swoops to one side in back, that?s a big complicated holster to stabilize his weird long and unwieldy gun. Similarly, the holster is on his dominant side, so he isn?t supposed to pull it out fast like a handgun, it?s tucked out of the way for specialty use later. Likewise, with the bullets on his arm - Who the heck carries two bullets, strapped to their bicep? Those are designed to keep them safe and out of the way, for a special circumstance. Last, see the cap at the end of the pistol, which is designed to unscrew? That?s not how a normal gun works. Now, here?s some photos of dart guns, and the carrying cases for tranquilizer darts. You unscrew the back to load the dart. The original story pattern for the Cobra Trooper was kidnapping scientists, and bringing them back to Cobra for their secrets. The garrote is used to neutralize guards silently, a tranquilizer dart knocks out targets you want to transport alive. I think the Cobra Trooper greebles arm him to break into guarded facilities and kidnap scientists. |

My love for GIJoe is pretty nuanced to '82-'87 (with minor characters after that). So, I've been selective on which volumes I bought. The prototype drawings of Lady Jaye are incredible and really explain why the character looks like she did in the cartoon. Jason |

It varies from issue to issue. So, it's not like Vol. 1 is '82-'82, and then Vol 2 is '84. He has a good mix of vehicles and figures from various years. I have 3 or 4 of the first volumes he published. I know I have the one with the Cobra trooper. I just need to pull it off the shelf and double check what the prototype drawings say.

Jason Also, the speed at which they unveiled the oring CC an CT tells me they were already going to release these in normal original paint apps outside apart from the HasLab, so might have a chance to get that CT mold in my paws in the next year without hunting. Finally, I'm aligned with Joe years 1982 to 1987, which happens to line up with sunbow years, but the cartoon was definitely NOT my main vision. Those 87 Cobra figure designs and their intro into the comics (Raptor and new CC) made me dropped the whole brand after buying them. |
