Yes, but I wouldn't run them over with your car. I haven't had any trouble with the ones I've made. You can find more info about the scabbards here.

You did awesome bro. Most of the time the clothing looks big on the figures and it takes away from what you made.
But this figure is great and I love the clothing on it. Honestly I think I may need to take up learning to sew after seeing how good you did on this. |

Thanx! this is pretty much the only way I do customs just messing I've made a few plastic figs, but I think just plastic lacks complexity. I started with marvel toybiz figures then moved to joes during the valor vs venom days....skipped 25th and moved to marvel universe since they are way looser and sculpted near naked so there's less cut down if any. I would love to see a revolution in realism come from this.... it's about making 3/34 figs look like sideshow dolls. I have only made 2 real clothes joes and it was out of toybiz marvel figures so I haven't even seen a 3/34 real clothes joe. WHAT I'VE LEARNED: sewing is really easy and keep in mind to make things look good on a joe you'll want thin material like spandex, womens nylons/tights etc...other stuff can look ok too,but the thinner the better... |

That looks REALLY GOOD! Especially since if I attempted your method I would have shot myself at some point. But I gotta go with flame viper on the tread scale. And it's something I've actually been working on myself. Trust me, I wish I can sew like that. But here's my cheat...
After working hard to do what you're doing I found some physics related facts that take away from the realism. 1. It doesn't matter what fabric you use, it's always too thick, creating too much girth in your character. 2. gravity has a much more different effect on a tiny bit of fabric as opposed to a full size shirt, which means there is less gravitational pull on the fabric to weigh it towards the floor. Not that there's less gravity, just less mass to be effected. 3. Folds and creases will not be to scale. It's a combination of 1 and 2 that causes this. It's very related to old school film that used model boats. They never looked right because water droplets can't change their own scale because the same physical forces were present and unchanged. Now here are some of the methods I've worked on combat these. 1. Like with Sith Fire does with his sculpted customs, I strip the figure down to a base skeleton. This combats the girth a little and gives space for the clothing around the joints to fill when bent. 2. I harden the fabric by stretching it and coating it with a varnish medium. This allows the fabric to be cut without fraying and... 3. Be super glued to the figure. By super gluing the clothing, I have control on the size, shape, and placement of clothing wrinkles. It also makes it as tight as I want it to the figure to again combat girth. I just leave a little extra at the joints, bunch them up with tweezers and glue the seam. Now I haven't tried sewing the fabric, but the next one I attempt was going to get a combination of the needlework and glue. Here's a couple samples What I used for mine was kota cotton. But the Red Ninja I'm working on is using a poly cotton blend that is far superior. You can get them on sale at Hobby Lobby for about 3 bucks a square yard. |
