i totally understand one person's creativity and imagination is different from anothers. this is what makes customs so friggin cool. we can get ideas form what we like, and even give help/pointers to people who are new or could just use help on improvements.
i dont think i've ever been harsh on anybody's work. i still consider myself a noob and doubt i could do better than half of the stuff i see here. also i agree with not saying anything if you dont have anything nice to say. so, i love seeing work done here and i hope this sort of thing doesnt give anyone a bad taste in thier mouth. there will always be haters (jealous? envious? who knows...) but you just got to shrug them off and do what you do. keep up the great work, everyone!!!

It helps when the person getting criticized doesn't become defensive and start seeing insults where there are none.

Personally I don't mind if someone says they don't like a piece. What bugs me is when then say they don't like it and then ask how you did it. It just seems backhanded.

lately it seems there has been a lot of bad air going around in some peoples custom threads. whether it is constructive criticism or ill will, i think it would be best if we all could just take a step back. I for one dont give a fruit what people say about my customs, i know which ones i like and which ones didnt turn out so good.
I think we shouldn't be so sensitive about what people say about our customs. first and foremost these are toys, customizing them is a hobby. shouldnt be something to get all pissed off about. IMO what do you guys think? All that means anyways is that he\she didn't like it. They still have a right to express what they believe are flaws in their own way. That's it. Move on and stop crying and see what the other guys say. That is what makes it fun....derrrrrr Plus, there is nothing any of us can do about it anyway, there so many of us here that everyday someone is going to snap.....Also, don't forget we got some younglings up in here.

You know, I think there have been a few times I see one I dont like and this is what I say....
"not my thing, but I respect the work that has been done." Like in the model car world and full sized car world, there will always be someone that will not like it, but someone that knows how hard the work can be or what the stuff looked like when they started, will be easy on them... To anyone that makes custom's, it's sometimes just like trying to make a Honda guy love a Vett or a old timer to like a Skyline, it's not going to work all the time, but even if you dont like it, you need to know the time that was spent on it. If you dont make any, dont discourage if you yourself can not do the work... I still do competitive car modeling, but I dont win much any more and thats because I build for me self, not others.... And I enjoy every minute of it! This one was built for fun, didnt place at all... but it got into a Magazine.... You never know....

Attack me as a human being, but please for the love of God don't attack my customs! After all, isn't there a poorly painted, mildly deformed little plastic child inside each and every one of you?

I really don't mind the critics. Tell someone why you like or dislike. I am all for that. just don't be a douchebag about it.

It all boils down to how the criticism is put & also if any helpful tips are given. Now the silence if not liked part is a good one BUT some take Big Hissy fits cause no-ones posted on the crappy custom. So you cannot win that way either.
For me I think if your happy is all that counts. There are some top talented customizers out there & some Very Inflated ego`s too (who think they are top customizers). Key part if your happy to show your work, take the rough & smooth as it comes. |
