Funny I had someone offer to buy my Tollbooth on Facebook lol! Thanks for your support my friend! So far Action Girl is the most popular on social media, which always surprises me, being an original character and not a tribute! ;-) |

#325/X119. ACTION GIRL
Indie Fighter Origin: USA Season 9 Back when I was in college, the fighting game craze was all the rage. I was working on comics at the time for my art projects, & the lead character I developed for a "Fighting Game Comic" was called "Action Girl." She was part Claire Danes (who was also popular at the time & looked like my then girlfriend) & part Chun-Li & full of fight!! I did several drawings based on the character & even a comic book where she fought off opponents at her college that were also loosely based on anime & fighting game characters. I saw this custom painted head from China on ebay, that immediately reminded me of my character from the 90's, & a Boss Fight body came to fruition quickly. I went through a couple options for her shorts, but in the end, an orange top, blue collar, jean shorts, & chucks were the perfect recreation of my fighting game character from my youth. I'm aware that around the same time a published comic called Action Girl had also come out, but there is no relation as this character is purely based on the combo I mentioned above & the name came from a song. A very fun moment for me was when I had her placed in my lineup of new bashes for one of my brothers to come check out, and he immediately pointed to her and said..."Is that Action Girl?" ;-) You have a link of where you got the head sculpt?

Thanks! Sure thing! It was color #4! What was nice is the painted skin tone matches the pale peach from Boss Fight/light skin tone on MGR perfectly (at least on my sample! )

Fun fact I dressed as The Crow one year for Halloween!
Did you deep dive into Slit-Mouthed Woman? There are SEVERAL movies in Japan but only a couple have been released stateside. I recommend "Carved" ...it's a slightly different origin than usual but still a strong movie that can be bought for cheap on DVD. Oh, & her dress is actually rubbery plastic from "Planet Green Valley" figure accessories! I'm glad you enjoy the stories so much, I want to try & have all of my MTF Universe arcs line up, & although I don't think everyone has time (or interest) in the fic part of this thread, I am am very thankful to those that enjoy that aspect as well! Thanks again buddy! [/B] I did do the deep dive on the Slit Mouthed Woman and WTF!? Haha, exactly the type of legend / character that I love spending an afternoon researching! I did read about Carved, several other movies and spent way too much time reading Reddit comments on how someone would trick the Slit Mouthed Woman! Haha. So you bringing her to my attention was much appreciated! I?ll have to look at some of that Planet Green stuff, I know about them but never really took a close look to see what they have. And yeah, your story write ups & code names are always epic.....it?s why it?ll take me so long to comment on some drops. Haha. Speaking of.....I didn?t get to one before vacation and another dropped right as I got back so I have some fun customs & write ups to dig into!

Darklon came out looking fantastic! Really great use of the Marauder armored pieces because they really match up with how I always envisioned the o ring figure looking. Love the larger pouch on his chest, shoulder a roar and that gun to really give him an imposing look.
Always loved Toxo Viper & Toxo Zombie growing up so it?s awesome to see one of them finally pop up in your thread. Love that chrome marker you used on the face plate, then you tied the figure together nicely with that build. Awesome write up as always, haha, I never really thought about how miserable the troops who worked for a Cesspool type leader must be. Daiyu is badass! Love the dress shirt combined with the MTF pants, really gives her a cool look. That?s a beautiful head that you picked up for her and the police belt & gear finishes off the look perfectly to match your backstory for her. Lmao! I love that Pipeline?s close encounter rack included Leatherface?s chainsaw! I feel sorry for the trooper who meets him in the tight corridors of the command center and see him start up that thing! Really great take on Benchpress. He was one I had always planned on making since he was always so pricy to pick up but I finally did find him for like $20 one day so I added him to the collection. I would like to do my own version of him down the road though since every joe can use at least one additional version. Haha. Bombstrike is another one of those characters that I always think about a v2 for. Your?s came out looking fantastic! Love the Scarlett Johansson head for her, really gives her something extra and that head is just beautifully painted! Really enjoying the MTF stickers you are adding to the figures, then she?s another with a great build. The exo suit part as a controller for a drone is so cool! Great twist on the character to aid her search and the execution is really awesome. Really like the switch out to give her boots a different color as well. Can?t wait to dig in to the next group!

#324/X118. HARD HAT (based on G.I. Joe ARAH Tollbooth '85)
Marauder Task Force Origin: USA Season 10 When I was a kid, Tollbooth & the Bridge Layer were about the most boring thing ARAH could offer as a vehicle + driver, and was an easy pass for me in my collection. As I grew older and understood why they would put more utilitarian type toys within the lineup, my appreciation grew for the duo. Never had any plans to make Tollbooth in my MTF Universe, but after recently discovering a hard hat cast on etsy, that made me go right to work! The seller did not have orange available (as it had sold out) & I told him I chose the yellow as my 2nd choice in the notes, & he went above & beyond & casted me an orange one just like I had wanted! Much to my surprise when it arrived, it was a solid piece, & as a plug-a-play kinda guy for almost everything I bash in this thread, I had to come up with a solution & ended up drilling/cleaning out the hat so it could fit nicely on the ole' MGR "Hank" head which I thought is a good match for the gruff Tollbooth. The one that the Club offered years back (by scanning reviews) looked kind of short for the character & I never bought it anyway, so I was happy to make my own MTF version with a DNL vest & that custom hard hat. The rest is MTF, & I get more use out of that "Hank" head than I ever imagined as I thought it would be reserved only for Grunt & Sgt. Savage lol... This one ended up being quite a fun homage to make, & I also like how he could fit into my "Wet World" story line... When ADMIRAL SHARK BITE needed someone to be head of utilities on the Atlantis Rig, he knew HARD HAT was the man for the job. Running a water rig this large is no easy task, as things can break easily and supplies are limited... so you need someone who can think on their feet and get the job done right in record time. HARD HAT is presented with constant environmental difficulties, & having to keep track of things both above and below sea level, while also being able to receive shipments, crew, & civilians with the upmost safety measures in place. HARD HAT is essential to the survival of everyone on Atlantis, & he never takes that lightly!

Lmao! That?s awesome! The Crow was one of the only movies I remember my uncle picking me up to go see in the theater, usually we just watched his recorded off tv VHS tapes and ?Home Box? (haha, he always called it Home Box, never HBO). But he must have seen how epic The Crow trailer looked and just immediately knew to pick up his nephew because we were gonna see Bruce Lee?s son whoop some tail on Halloween! I don?t even remember getting a heads up, just, I?m taking you to see the Crow and I was smart enough to just hop in the car. Still love that movie!
I did do the deep dive on the Slit Mouthed Woman and WTF!? Haha, exactly the type of legend / character that I love spending an afternoon researching! Speaking of.....I didn?t get to one before vacation and another dropped right as I got back so I have some fun customs & write ups to dig into! I want to track down more Slit-Mouthed Woman movies from Japan's film catalog for my own collection, as her stories always interest me, (there is even a "Carved 2!") So I will probably do more research on various films to order through my proxy from Japan's dvd rental stores, that often have buy-to-own sales on Yahoo Auctions, Rakuten, Rakuma, private collections etc. ;-) You should make a Slit-Mouthed woman too brother! XD Planet Green Valley stuff is somewhat difficult to track down, but their has been more options available over the past year with ebay sellers here & Asian websites willing to ship for a good price overseas. I finally have a good collection of PGV figures now. I always very much appreciate your thoughtful write ups, & that you always come back for more while enjoying all aspects of this thread! Looking forward to what you have to say next! . Last edited by Steel Brigade; 05-10-2022 at 03:05 PM.. |
