I don't think anyone has mentioned it yet, but someone once gave me the tip of using Krazy Glue on the joints, 'cause it applies like water and protects better than anything I've seen; furthermore, it dries really quickly and once dry, it can come into contact with anything and will never rub off or bond with whatever it comes into contact with. It dries kinda glossy, but a quick layer of dull coat will take care of that.
Just thought I'd share the tip. |

Painting joints are one of the most difficult spots when customizing. You either have an unmovable joint or risk flaking off the paint. Sanding down or dremeling the area helps to add some space to the area. If you are painting a light colored figure darker, try dye. It works to get in the joints better and does not need to be dremeled. ***BEWARE-dyes can alter the color in a way you don't want. Experiment with pieces of fodder (items that you can careless about) first. Customizing is just about experimentation, practice and tone of trial and error. There are alot of customizers that make it look easy but many of us have been customizing for along time and tried every trick. Do not get let down because your first custom did not go the way you wanted, it is a learning experience. You may discover a trick that no one else has and share it with the rest of the customizers. FYI, customizing is an expensive hobby.

These are all great tips. All I gotta say is practice, practice, practice. And use Badgumbo's Windex trick to water down paints. (Ten pumps into a dixie cup and fill the rest with water.)
Oh, and try not to drink coffee or caffeinated drinks before you paint faces. ;-) |

For joints I try to find the same or similar color parts for it,then no worries on rubbing.

I feel you, man. It took me a lot longer than reckoned when I did my Shadow Guard squad and that was using only two different paints. The intricacy that goes along with making customs that you can be proud of can be a little overwhelming but if you take the time and practice, you can definitely progress.
