The BRT-D (Armoured Missile Transport - Airborne) Sobol (Sable) was first introduced in the mid-1960s as a mobile platform for the 9M14 Malyutka (AT-3 Sagger) MCLOS antitank missile for Soviet paratroopers. The Sobol was also armed with a 7.62x54 PKT machine gun and an AGS-17 automatic grenade launcher to provide fire support. Though similar in concept to the German Weisel and the American Ontos and Armadillo tankettes, the BRT-D was designed to be air droppable via a special parachute pallet from An-12 and IL-76 transport planes, providing landing troops with immediate firepower. The Sobol had a very low profile, and was fitted with a periscope sight for the 9M14 missiles, enabling it to engage enemy armor from a hull down position behind cover. The BRT-Ds service life was very short however, less than two years, owing to changes in Soviet airborne doctrine and the introduction of the vastly superior BMD-1. Most of the original production run of 400 vehicles was sold or given to Soiviet client states or guerilla forces, with a small number retained for special warfare units such as the Oktober Guard.

I have one of these that I was going to use for my Oktober guard as well and it took me a second to recognize it. I like all of the little additional details but the dual weapons system in the front was an awesome modification. Great job.

Thanks! The huge cannon that came on the original vehicle seemed to big for such a tiny tankette.
