When Hasbro announced that Low-Light is not currently on the slate of upcoming releases, that gave me the go-ahead to produce this 25th Anniversary style custom of the GI Joe "Night Spotter".
I started with A Beachhead v.1 25th Anniversary figure, and utilized the head and rifle from the DTC version released a few years ago. The first, and most important modifications I made were altering the elbow joints and pelvis/crotch area to improve mobility. These were a problem with Beach Head v.1, and as a sniper, I knew Low-Light needed to be able to crouch, and double hand his rifle. The figure was painted with Tamiya acrylics (I airbrushed the gray, other elements were hand-painted). Additional details, such as the knit cap on the fully-masked head, and the ribbed rifle butt padding, were sculpted with Milliput. I modified the DTC head by drilling it out, and inserting a small aluminum post into the center. Subsequently, I drilled a small hole in the center of the neck (but without removing the ball joint). This allows the figure to be displayed with either the "regular" Low-Light head or the masked version. The goggles are modified DTC style (I just added the "ski goggle" lenses with Milliput). Additionally, I removed the leg-mounted map with a Dremel tool from the DTC figure's leg, and placed it on top of a newly sculpted pocket on Low-Light's leg. This was a cool detail on the DTC figure that I wanted to retain. Low-Light's equipment includes the sniper rifle, submachine gun and pistol that were included with v.1 Beach Head, tac vest, & goggles. I had a lot of fun adventures with Low-Light and Beach Head back in the day, and it's great to have them teamed-up again! -Greg Last edited by denversaur; 07-06-2010 at 08:16 PM.. |
