Great custom, great photography. The littel details on the sandals and the sword are impressive. Digging the oni mask as well.

The hands, and lower arms, are from the comic 2-pack Clone Emperor with Luke. I was originally going to leave the arms as is, as they have sculpted straps/bindings, but decided to give this guy the Samurai armor pieces on his forearms and lower legs to mimic the Tao 12" figure.

Check out "The Art of Tsukamaki" for excellent references. I'm not 100% pleased with the outcome, but it was my first serious attempt. Now that I've done it, I imagine it will only get better - I hope. Anyway, patience and perseverance is all I can say if anyone wants to try this. Don't give up, and make sure you have a good set of needle-tip tweezers! |

It was tough, to say the least. It really came down to "wrap and glue" for every turn around the handle. The toughest part was getting the cord/lace folds to lay correctly with one another. I used the alternating style, left over right - right over left, with two folds on each pass to create the middle interlocking weave. Trust me...I must have said "I wish I had a 3rd hand" several times on this one. Check out "The Art of Tsukamaki" for excellent references. I'm not 100% pleased with the outcome, but it was my first serious attempt. Now that I've done it, I imagine it will only get better - I hope. I was going to attempt the project again when I finish my ninja viper only I was going to pen the linework as a guide. I do have a related question for you. the swords I've been making, I've had to adopt a different tactic than what you used for your tutorial. When you cut your blade, you leave a little extension that goes into your handle. I've done this many times but eventually with the lightest touch, the blade will accidently snap off the finished product. I've been real careful with my cuts as to not cause stress points from over cutting but is there a way of doing this so the styrene isn't so fragile? The method I've adopted is I started extending the blade all the way to the bottom and only shaved a small amount on either edge. Then after sliding the hilt on, I'll sandwich two flat pieces on either side to make the handle, sand two round the edges, then wrap. |

Very cool! I dig the new arms and the lacing on the feet. Mad props on the handle wrapping, I have the same page saved for reference (I'll try it someday). The new mask is your best one yet.
My only critque would be the head, it looks too thick or something. A modded trooper head might work better. Quote:
