Hello Tankers,
Newbie here. This is my very first joe custom ever, so be gentle. I used to do Tamiya armor models right out of the box in my adolescence, but never customized anything. Started re-collecting Joe's this past Winter after about a 16-year hiatus, which led to searches online which led to Hisstank which led to trying my hand at customizing after seeing so much middle-aged awesomeness out here. The base this project came from a cheap plastic inflatable pool toy I found in my garage, the origin of which is unknown. The rest came from scrap parts from a '00 Night Landing Craft, some other cheap plastic & ultimate roadblock .50 cal. I used some styrene to wall in the pilothouse.(thanks youtube how-to vids). Lots of Perfect Putty to bond things together I hard a hard time with like the entire 50cal armour and ammo box, torpedo tube and the railings, which came simply from the plastic frames that hold joe vehicle parts when you get them out of the box. I loosely modeled it after a real-world U.S. Navy craft called the Sea Ark I found on google. I figured Joe was a little light on Navy stuff, so when I saw that toy boat it gave me the idea to experiment. Here's how it came out: "S.W.O.R.D FISH (Special Warfare Operations Reconnaissance & Deployment) The S.W.O.R.D FISH is the first multi-function watercraft designed for the G.I. Joe Navy since the early-2000s. It will replace the smaller DEVILFISH and N.L.C. The Joe Navy will deploy the craft for critical infrastructure protection (CIP) in and around foreign ports across the globe. The craft can operate in brown, green or blue waters, and will be deployed to patrol shallow littoral regions beyond the harbors and bays. It can also conduct missions in the open ocean for protecting Joe defense forces. Additionally, the S.W.O.R.D. FISH is ideal for coordinated efforts with Joe's Naval Special Warfare and Naval Special Operations operators such as Navy SEALs Wet-Suit & Torpedo. It comes well-armed with a bow-mounted 50-calibre machine gun which can fully elevate, depress, and swing 360 degrees. It also comes outfitted with a starboard-mounted MK-46 torpedo tube for engaging any COBRA vessels it may encounter." |

....and for posterity's sake, here's a few pics of the pool toy used as a base (it floats!) and my pathetic photoshop attempt at box-art.

The life jacket on GH, I simply yanked off the 25th Cutter.
The one on Shippy, which I like better, came off some cheap $7 coast guard action figure I picked up at a random toy shop on the Ocean City, New Jersey boardwalk a few months ago. I found them on Amazon here https://www.amazon.com/United-States.../dp/B00LK0NBK0 There's 2 different figures - I got the one with the moustache as his lifejacket looked better (and removable). Not sure about the other guy's orange jacket thing. |
