I was late to the GI Joe collecting hobby, and the D.E.F. figures(except for the Headhunters, which I didn't get until years later) were the first figures I had. The nostalgic memories of them inspired me to make my own custom ME versions of the four GI Joe members in what I consider to be one of my favorite subsets. I'm going to go in order from my least favorite to most favorite, though all four of them I am pleased with.
First one is Cutter, and the reason why he is my least favorite of the bunch is because his specialty limits him to less land-based missions. Also, when I saw the D.E.F. Cutter figure, I couldn't help but notice three things that bothered me. One, his flashlight attachment looked like it's a toilet plunger. Two, when I saw he looks in the GI Joe comics, I noticed he had a red vest on, which I felt looked better for him. And three, his missile launcher looked the least appealing out of all the D.E.F. guys. Anyways, I had an extra BBTS Mercer body, and felt it would be the best choice to use for making Cutter. I gave him a Retaliation Crimson Guard vest to help emulate the red vest he had on in the comics. I know there are a few spots here and there on the figure's pants that need touching up, but the main problem is that the leg screws are stripped and cannot be taken out. Despite that, I do like how it came out. Second one is Mutt & Junkyard, the inseparable duo and the only one for many years that I had as pet and owner. I didn't get Law & Order or Spearhead & Max until recently. I'm fairly certain more people like the 1984 verison than the 1992 version. However, I like the 1992 version more because of the added padding and gauntlets. I know Junkyard wouldn't intentionally bite him, but I feel it's better he's protected than exposed. At first, I tried to be kinda lazy by just slapping on the POC Firefly vest on top of a 25th Anniversary Mutt body. However, I wanted to better replicate the 1992 version so I used the POC Tomahawk body, which worked great imo. Then I repainted a cast version of Shockblast's cap and superglued the mic from a 25th Anniversary Comic Pack Wild Bill after cutting it off using a pair of scissors. Only part of the 25th Anniversary Mutt figure I retained in this custom was the head, due to the unique scar. Third one is Bullet-Proof, the only new character at the time as the rest of the characters already had at least one version released before. I liked his character but I found it difficult to wrap in my mind that he actually was an urban assault specialist. He looked more like a greenshirt to me, and so I used a vest from Daremo(who sells/makes some awesome cast parts btw) to make him look more like the role he was trying to play. I tried to make two different customs of this character previously, but I feel this one is the best look for him. Last but not least is my favorite character and the very first figure I ever brought, Shockwave. I liked knights a lot and back then, before I knew anything about S.W.A.T., I thought of him as a modern version of a knight. I liked his backstory, particularly the detail of him kicking down doors. The idea of making a ME version of the 1992 Shockwave started after I brought a Retaliation Agent Mouse from my TRU. The way his hair was parted had me thinking it would be the best one to use for an unmasked Shockwave. I had to make a few modifications here and there to attach the holster on his left leg and to add attachments to the vest. Aside from the shoulder pads, I feel this is a great update for the D.E.F. version, should Hasbro ever release one in the future. Happy 4th of July and hope you like them...

Thanks. I really had fun making these, even though the stripped screws on the BBTS Mercer legs were a disappointment.
