Day 20: Lunar Showdown Space BATS and Iron Star Satellite Mission Set
Space B.A.T.S. by bucky Packaging by Sam Panico A straight forward repaint of the Arctic Bat, Space bat here was a rather simple repaint that fit in well with the space theme. A little MTF armor here and there, and the figure was done. The silver looked good, so I left it on there. Filecard by G1Trekker Parts: Head: all 50th B.a.t. Torso:all 50th B.a.t. Arms:all 50th B.a.t. Legs:all 50th B.a.t. Web gear: MTF Figure Iron Star Satellite by Oreobuilder "The Iron Grenadiers destroy enemy targets from space with Destro’s newest weapon! The IRON STAR SATELLITE fires its laser cannon from orbit and obliterates any foe! Includes 2 IRON GRENADIER Space Rangers TARGATs. Other figures sold seperately." Packaging by Sam Panico After I made Street Hawk for my Funskool project in 2015, I really liked the modern TARGAT recipe that I created for that figure, so I pieced together a couple more. At first, they were meant to be included in the Prologue’s Iron Grenadier gift set. However, I moved them out to make room for Darklon. They were homeless for a while, but when I came up with the Mission Sets, TARGAT fit right in. For the colors, I adapted them to Destro’s pallet. I always thought that the silver and blue of the original did not work with the Iron Grenadiers, so I substituted for gold and red. Once I decided that the TARGATs would represent our space environment, I searched for a suitable mini playset that could act as a companion piece. I went back and forth on a few ideas, but finally remembered a satellite that had been sitting in my fodder box for a while. After that, everything clicked. I gave it some weaponry and a new Iron Grenadiers color scheme and it was done. Day 21: Lunar Showdown Fer-de-Lance with Cosmo-Viper
Cobra Fer-de-Lance with Cosmo-Viper by Dusty79 ''Could this be the end of GI JOE’s space mission? The COBRA FER-DE-LANCE rockets in and out of the earth’s atmosphere in this state of the art space fighter! Features armored canopy, variable geometry wings, four powerful jet engines, two plasma thrusters, top mounted ion blasters, nose-mounted machine guns, and more! Includes pilot COSMO-VIPER!.'' Packaging by Sam Panico The Fer-De-Lance was very fun to build and changed a great deal from the initial plans. In fact, it was originally to be based on a Star Wars Y-Wing bomber, but when I found the Optimus Prime upgrade and saw how big it was, I knew I had to incoporate it into this vehicle. This ship has a lot of parts mashed together and has more screws than any other custom I have ever done. Filecard by Sam Panico Parts: Cosmo-Viper Torso, legs: 30th Sci-Fi Arms: Ret. Day 22: Lunar Showdown Splashdown and Moon Viper
Splashdown by bucky Packaging by Sam Panico If Joe is on the Moon, they are going to need an Astronaut. In Resurgence 1, Oreobuilder and I tried to make customs using a wide variety of specialties. Not having any inclination that we would do part 2, let alone part 3, we covered our bases, and an Astronaut by the name of Splashdown was made for part 1. Here we are 3 years later and finishing up the Resurgence universe, and the storyline takes us to the moon. Rather than make a new character, I decided to tackle Splashdown. To me it made the most sense. The entire Resurgence line was meant to mimic an actual product line, and the ARAH series had multiple version and repaints in some cases of characters over the years. With that in mind, bringing back Splashdown made more sense than a new character. I deviated heavily from the suit he originally wore, trying to make it more of a combat type astronaut suit. He was a fun build. I struggled with the paint apps at times, but I'm ok with the results. Filecard by G1Trekker Parts: Head: BBI figure with Halo helmet Torso: Data Viper Arms:Roc Accelerator suit Legs: Roc Accelerator suit Web gear: Force Awakens Deluxe figure Moon Viper by bucky Packaging by Sam Panico What's a Viper on the Moon going to look like? I looked at various Vipers over the years for some inspiration. A slightly modified helmet (but keeping the goggles for some humor). Heavily layered clothing, some pads, rather large moon boots, and traditional Viper colors are what I decided to go with. Cobra has Astro Vipers from floating around in space and what not, but the Moon Vipers are meant to be running around the Moon base and outside bouncing around on the surface. Filecard by G1Trekker Parts: Head: Stormtrooper over a viper head Torso: Low Light Arms: Low Light/Blind Master Legs: 50th Hawk/Money Bags Destro Web gear: Techno Viper with Grenades added Weapon: Modified Cpt. Day 23: Lunar Showdown Artemis Cannon with Glitch 3.0
Cobra Artemis Cannon by Dusty79 "COBRA COMMANDER’s ultimate weapon! ARTEMIS decimates GI JOE’s resistance to achieve total victory! Features gunner station, Helium-3 fuel cells, rotating turret, and realistic lights and sounds! Includes GLITCH 3.0! Other figures sold separately." Packaging by Sam Panico In the planning stages of the project, we came up with the idea for a moon based super weapon and it stood to reason one of us would have to make that weapon. I had a WIP in a very primitive stage for a large gun sitting around that used a found item in the form of a large plastic protective shipping dome that came off a photography flash setup. I popped that onto the Halo energy station and it looked very promising. The Sonic Screwdriver made a nice barrell for the weapon and the control panel and fuel source were pieced together from my parts bins. It does actually rotate and my son will most likely be stealing it and making it his own. Parts: Halo energy station The Dome is a protective cover for shipping purposes on a piece of photography equipment Control panel from the MASS Device Dr. Who Sonic Screwdriver Radar dish off a Millenium Falcon toy Plastic test tube filled with gel candle wax Glitch 3.0 by DanOfTheDead From the desk of DanOfTheDead: Glitch 3.0 with BUG (Bionic UpGrade Symbiote) When Bucky approached me about contributing a figure to the third round of Resurgence, we bounced a few ideas around until I asked if anyone was working on a new version of Glitch, my personal favorite character from the first two years of the project, and he let me take a crack at it. I eventually combined my plans for Glitch with an idea I had for a Joe themed DARPA Big Dog robot, and started trying all sorts of random part combinations. When I came up with the basic build of the accessory robot, I thought it would be a neat play feature if its parts could be interchangeable with Glitch. I tried to make use of parts that had been used for Glitch and some of the SWARM characters, suggesting that he had to rebuild himself using SWARM debris after the events of Resurgence 2. Filecard by G1Trekker Parts: GLITCH 3.0 General Grievous - Torso Retaliation Zartan - Shoulders Iron Man - Lower Arms, Hips, Legs ROC Cobra Commander - Head New Sculpt Tele-Viper - Shoulder armor, head antennae Retaliation Cobra Commander - Wrist Laser, Wrist Computer Mercenary Wraith - Feet IG Lancer Droid - Tech Belt BUGS L8-L9 - “Head” Darth Maul - Legs Iron Grenadier - Missile Launcher Body Data-Viper - Missile Racks FX-6 - Manipulator Arms PHX Customs is super excited and proud to announce that Danofthedead has become a full fledged member of PHX Customs! Day 24: Lunar Showdown Thunderstriker
GI Joe Thunderstriker by Dusty79 "This exo-atmospheric fighter will crush COBRA! Using sophisticated stealth technology, the Thunderstriker cannot be detected by radar as it attacks COBRA’s lunar base! Features advanced forward-swept wing design, retractable landing gear, air-to ground missiles, rocket boosters, dual vulcan canons, opening cockpit, and more! Includes pilot STRAFE." Packaging by Sam Panico An upgraded, exo-atmospheric version of the Skystriker has been on my mind for a long time. In the show they did it by putting a single rocket on the back between the vertical stabilizers, but I wanted it to be much more sophisticated than that. I was inspired by several pieces of concept art I saw online of not only a forward swept wing Skystriker, but also several forward swept wing Macross planes. With the boosters, this plane definitely has a Robotech feel and we thought that was just fine as we try to inspire nostalgic feelings. I chose to do a female pilot because it's always nice to see more variety in that aspect of GI Joe. Strafe is one of my favorite customs to date. I really like how she turned out. Day 25: Cobra Island Mastermind
Mastermind by Oreobuilder Packaging by Sam Panico I originally conceived the character of Mastermind in 2008ish. At the time, I wanted to add a character to the Cobra hierarchy that specialized in planning, strategy and tactics. I always seemed like it was an aspect that was missing from Cobra. Secondly, I wanted an excuse to build a Cobra strategy room diorama. Third, I wanted to create a character using parts from my fodder bin that don't see much re-use. The original figure was a mash-up of 25th anniversary Cobra Commander and Snowjob parts. I was pretty satisfied with the result at the time that Mastermind was created. However, I have had the itch to revisit the character and modernize the build for a while now. When I saw Ron Rudat’s concept Cobra Commander on Facebook, my first thought was ‘’That’s Mastermind!’’. I used the sketch as inspiration and I finally have a figure that meets my vision for the character. Day 26: Cobra Island Badger and Professor Braingames
GI Joe Badger with Offroad by bucky "It’s the latest COBRA-crunching assault jeep! Features armored canopy, rotating turret with dual heavy cannons, battering ram and more! Includes driver OFFROAD! Other figures sold separately." Packaging by Sam Panico The jeep that the new Badger is made out of was an awesome little vehicle before I decided to customize it up. I bought it with the intention of painting it up and stickering it for Joes, but the Joes didn't need another vamp. A Badger on steroids fit the bill for the custom though, I loved the original Badger as a kid. That thing could take a beating. Offroad was a fun custom to make as well. The additions on the vest went on rather smoothly, and the coloring was meant to mimic the original Badger colors. Filecard by Sam Panico Parts: Head: BBI Elite Forces Torso: Snake Eyes Retaliation Arms: Cobra Commander Legs: Snake Eyes Arctic Web gear: Crimson Guard with Knife and Pouches added Professor Braingames by bucky Packaging by Sam Panico The process of finding characters and specialties that have yet to be done in the Joe universe is somewhat challenging. One thing to do that was done in the ARAH line was to release new characters with the same specialty, which we do as well for the Resurgence Projects. Another idea that I try to employ is to take a specialty that was only made for one team, and apply it to the other side. Braingames started out on paper as a Cobra Psyche Out, a deceptive warfare kind of guy. Reading up on Psyche Out and how he was used in the comics had me taking his Cobra counterpart in a different way, that of an Ivy League type that uses his intelligence to manipulate people. Kilcarr came up with a Professor Braingames bio and filecard that captures the essence of what I had in mind for the character, absolutely nailing it. Filecard by Kilcarr Parts: Head: RoC Zartan with glasses, sculpted hair, piece of gun for earpiece Torso: Upper part BBTS Falcon, Lower unknown Arms: Roc Cobra Commander Legs: Roc Cobra Commander Web gear: Roc Cobra commander Weapon: Next: Cobra Island Mission Set from Oreobuilder Last edited by PHX Customs; 07-26-2016 at 05:35 AM.. |

Day 27: Cobra Island Coastal Defense
Coastal Defense by Oreobuilder "Cobra repels GI Joe invaders with the COASTAL DEFENSE battery. The launcher holds twelve rockets and swivels a full 360 degrees! Includes 2 COBRA DECIMATORS!" Packaging by Sam Panico The Coastal Defense rocket launcher was the first small playset that I came up with for Resurgence 3. It is actually the one that spawned the idea for the other five. I really liked the idea of going back to ARAH’s roots with small simple playsets. Since we had already decided that the story for part 3 was going to take us around the World, I wanted to have a Mission Set for each environment that we visited. I’m really happy with the way these turned out. Decimator has been on my to-do list for a while (like so many other things). The Resurgence III storyline depends on GI Joe fighting Cobra in several different environments around the World, so we needed to include several specialty troopers in our line up. I figured it was a good opportunity to get these done. I tried to stay as true as possible to the vintage version, but modernizing it somewhat as well. Day 28: Cobra Island Heloraptor ROV Attack Chopper w. Radar, Swift and Whisp
GI Joe Heloraptor ROV Attack Chopper with Radar by Dusty79 "COBRA doesn’t stand a chance with GI JOE HELORAPTOR ROV ATTACK CHOPPER patrolling the skies! An evasive, highly manueverable remotely operated attack helicopter equipped with an armor penetrating Gauss cannon and two Gatling guns that swarms in to clear the battlefield of COBRA tanks and troops! Includes pilot RADAR with ROV control apparatus!." Packaging by Sam Panico We decided to do some self customs this time around and Radar is the character I came up for a Joe loosely based on me. The name Radar comes from a dog I had as a kid, a Golden Retriever who was a great friend. He had been named after the MASH character by the breeder, in fact the entire litter had been named after MASH characters. I was always into video games as a kid and so thought that would be an ineteresting angle to play up and since I have never served in the military, I figured may as well make me operate an attack ROV and look pretty civilian in attire. The rest was just arming up an appropriate airframe. I also included some 79's as a nod to my customizing moniker. Filecard by Kilcarr Parts: Radar Head: Ret Agent Mouse Torso: Renegades Tunnel Rat Arms: Ret Agent Mouse Legs: Renegades Law and Order Jacket: The Walking Dead Carl Grimes Feet:Retaliation 3-pack Firefly Chair is from the Coastal Defender, modified a little. Heloraptor Halo Gauss cannon POC Black Dragon engines ROC Dragonhawk Whisp by bucky Packaging by Sam Panico I was proud of the character and the custom of Whisp from Resurgence 1, and using the techniques and lessons I've learned over the last 3 years, really wanted to do another version. I received great feedback on the 1st version of the figure at the Springfield Con. Lucky for me, I had a great flexible cast helmet sitting in my fodder that looked very similar to the V1, and didn't want to drill a hole in in for a ponytail. I opted to do pigtails instead, and give the figure a look you don't normally see on female Joes. She's one of my favorite characters I've created for the Resurgence Universe. Filecard by GITrekker Parts: Head: Pilot Scarlett head, with pigtails from a Star Wars figure, cast helmet of unknown origin. Torso: Roc Scarlett Arms: RoC Scalett/Star Wars figure, RoC Flash hands Legs: Snowjob/Ret. Cyber Ninja Web gear: Scarf from AVAC's Lab Swift by bucky Packaging by Sam Panico Originally slated for Resurgence 2, Swift didn't make the cut and was shuffled to Part 3. Due to time constraints and the large amount of characters in Part 2, holding her off til the last round allowed me to really take as much time as I wanted with the custom. The final product isn't much different from the original build with the exception of the head. Switching to the Avengers head with more flexible hair allowed myself to then build up a backpack. A fun side note on the custom is that the bomb on the leg is in fact removable and I made a peg for it to come on and go back on. I went with a lot of "Joe" colors on her as a call back to the vintage 83-85 look. Filecard by Billy Carr and Sam Panico Parts: Head: Avengers Scarlet Witch Torso: Retaliation Lady Jaye Arms: Roc Breaker? Day 29: Cobra Island GI Joe Rolling Thunder
GI Joe Rolling Thunder by Dusty79 "The ROLLING THUNDER is a roving arsenal of GI JOE power! This quad-tracked vehicle bristles with weapons! Features an opening canopy, scout vehicle, twin tactical missiles on a pivoting launch apparatus, mini-guns, machine guns and the high velocity central rail cannon. Includes driver LONG-RANGE and scout CRASH COURSE!" Packaging by Sam Panico I have had the idea for a dual tracked piece of armor for a while now. Originally, this vehicle was mocked up using a Retaliation HISS tank body and was meant to be a Cobra tank for Resurgence 2. I ended up scrapping it to make the HISS Mk IV. One day during the long build process for my Resurgence 3 ideas, I decided to see what I could do with the Sigma Six Dragon Hawk and it seemed to be pretty neat. I worked out some armaments and it kind of fell into place. The scout vehicle does not fit inside like the original Rolling Thunder, but it still adds play value. Bucky helped me out with a driver for the scout vehicle as I was pretty well buried in a long custom queue and he came up with a great character and figure. Filecard by G1Trekker Parts: Long Range: Head, torso, arms: HACKS Vest: PoC Firefly Legs: PoC Shock Trooper Helmet: Ret Eaglehawk Rolling Thunder: Sigma Six Dragon Hawk POC HISS treads x 2 Original Rolling Thunder missiles Halo guns Halo Gauss canon with Rolling Thunder gun barrel added Halo Warthog missile upgrade apparatus Scout Vehicle: Die cast Halo Warthog POC Steel Marauder POC HISS guns Crash Course by bucky Dusty79 decided to wow us and build a giant Joe vehicle in the tradition of ARAH greats such as the ThunderClap and Rolling Thunder. It was large enough that it was going to need two operators, and I volunteered to make the secondary driver, as you see here. Dusty built a vehicle for him to drive to go along with the massive one as well! I tried to go for an authentic ARAH inspired look and color scheme to Crash Course.
