Day 10: Forest Ambush Silent Master and Rook
Silent Master by Dusty79 Packaging by Sam Panico This figure is a remake of a character created by Oreobuilder in a previous Resurgence. Silent Master was a favorite of mine. I love the idea of him and how he ties many different aspects of GI Joe together. Plus, it's always fun to take something and put a different spin on it, that's what customizing is all about. My favorite part of this custom is the dual uzis hanging hidden under his cape. Filecard by Sam Panico Parts: Head: RoC Snake Eyes Hood: Ret Kamakura Scarf: 30th Zandar and POC Dusty Torso, arms, legs: PoC Zartan Belt: PoC Zartan modded Rook by Oreobuilder Packaging by Sam Panico In 2010, Guy Cassaday and Ron Rudat, both former Hasbro employees that designed most of the GI Joe A Real American Hero line in the ‘80s, planned to launch a new toy line: SK Omega. Unfortunately, the line did not get produced. However, they did show off some awesome concept art at various conventions. I have had SK Omega characters on my customs radar for a while. I pieced together most of the main cast last year, but never got around to painting and accessorizing them. This project gave me the excuse I needed to get off my behind and get them done. I find it fitting that these characters would be included in a GI Joe toy line as they were created by the fathers of the modern GI Joe mythos. I picked Rook to include in this project to fill the role of "regular green army guy". We did not want to bring back Groundpounder who had previously filled that role and I think that GI Joe always needs a "Grunt" type, so Rook took over that spot. I stayed as close as possible to the source material, but I did add a bit of gear like the helmet and shoulder radio to complete the look. Day 11: Forest Ambush Rooster and Hot Shot
Rooster by bucky Packaging by Sam Panico I wanted to use the codename Rooster for a Joe. That's pretty much how this figure came to be. The specialties and the look came after the name. The original build used the mohawk trooper head, which I didn't really care for on the build. I kept scrounging around until I found the set of bare arms that matched the head for skin tone, and built the figure off of that. I really like his look. To myself, it looks like a decent mix of military and Sci Fi, which is what the line used to be. Filecard by Sam Panico and GITrekker Parts: Head: RoC Ripcord, with goatee added Torso: Retaliation Trooper Arms: Ace and Repeater Legs: Retaliation Trooper Web gear: Snake Eyes PoC Hot Shot by bucky Packaging by Sam Panico Smoke Jumpers is an interesting occupation. You jump out of an airplane into a forest fire, with the intent of putting it out. Makes a good basis for a Joe character. The 12" line produced a smoke jumper figure awhile ago, that I used as some inspiration for the build. Most of it, from the colors to the face, came from one picture that I found, and used as a guide to the character himself. Filecard by Kilcarr Parts: Head: Lowlight with beard, Avacs Lab Helmet Torso: Blowtorch Arms: Blowtorch Legs: 25th Snake Eyes with pouches from Raginspoon Web gear: Various Next: Stockpile and GI Joe HQ from Oreobuilder Last edited by PHX Customs; 07-11-2016 at 12:21 AM.. |

Day 12: Forest Ambush Stockpile and GI Joe Headquarters
Stockpile by Oreobuilder Packaging by Sam Panico Stockpile is a character that was originally created by GITrekker. His custom was built a few years ago using o-ring parts. When Bucky suggested that we incorporate a couple of Trekker’s figures into the project, I was interested. Adding a GI Joe Supply and Logistics specialist to the team had been on my "To-Do" list since I built the train a few years ago. The build was straight forward and Stockpile transitioned into the Modern Era pretty easily. I added my own (very little) twist on the character by giving him a bunch of Playmobil cargo accessories. Filecard by Sam Panico Parts: Head: MTF Torso, arms: RoC Sgt Stone Upper legs: Renegades Tunnel Rat Lower legs: Captain America Vest: RoC Pit Commando Cargo Accessories: Bruder, Playmobil GI Joe Headquarters with Back-Talk & Switch by Oreobuilder "Machine guns, cannons, surveillance cameras and search lights guard the sturdy heavy walls. GI JOE’s military headquarters has everything for your GI JOE RESURGENCE team to fight COBRA! Track COBRA and communicate with Joes in the field from the Command Console! Treat injured Joes in the Medical Bay! Repair GI Joe vehicles in the Motor Pool! Includes GI JOE Communications Specialist BACK-TALK and Weapons Specialist SWITCH! (Other figures sold separately)" Packaging by Sam Panico A few years ago, when I was buying up my childhood toys on eBay, I bought a lot containing a bunch of 1983 headquarters parts. I managed to assemble one complete HQ in good shape. I also put together a second one. Unfortunately, several parts were broken and discolored, so I decided to customize it. I started by chopping out the weapons trays and turning it into a supply storage room and armory. After that, I decided to transform the stockade into a medical ward. I basically cut out pieces of styrene and glued them over the bars and added some screens and medical equipment. It sat as an unfinished WIP for a time while I worked on other projects. Resurgence 3 gave me an opportunity to dust it off and get it done. Back-Talk I have had SK Omega characters on my customs radar for a while. I pieced together most of the main cast last year, but never got around to painting and accessorizing them. This project gave me the excuse I needed to get off my behind and get them done. I find it fitting that these characters would be included in a GI Joe toy line since they were created by the fathers of the modern GI Joe mythos. After making Rook, I set my sights on Back-Talk. Despite the fact that I find his look a bit unremarkable next to the other members of the squad, I wanted to continue building the team. Also, I wanted a figure to include with the HQ. A communications specialist made perfect sense. I spiced him up with a decal for his shirt and a spiffy detailed backpack. Filecard by Sam Panico Parts: Head: Retaliation Clutch (cast) Torso, arms: Renegades Duke Upper legs: DG Shipwreck Lower legs: 30th Stalker Belt: Retaliation Snake Eyes Backpack: Chap Mei Right thigh pouch: Marauder Task Force Switch Early in our brainstorming for Resurgence 3, we thought it would be fun if we each made a custom of ourselves and included them in the project. I decided that Switch could serve as a civilian advisor and part of PHX. The character’s passion for weapons development is meant as a nod to my customizing. For the recipe, the toughest part was finding a head that looks like me. Dragonsky is actually a pretty good fit. Filecard by Kilcarr Parts: Head: DTC Dragonsky Torso, upper arms: 25th Duke Lower arms: RoC Zartan Les: Renegades Cobra Trooper Vest: PoC Zartan Next: Heli-Viper and Forest Ambush Mission Set from Oreobuilder Last edited by PHX Customs; 07-12-2016 at 08:30 AM.. |

Day 13: Forest Ambush Heli-Viper and Radar Station
Heli-Viper by Oreobuilder Packaging by Sam Panico Heli-Viper was originally made to fit into the Mission Brazil Cobra Team. I finished him pretty quickly even before we had finalized the roster. When we settled on the other team members, Heli-Viper did not fit anymore. He was a lone troop builder in a group of named characters. For that reason, I removed him and decided to include him in the main project instead. I stuck pretty close to the recipe I used for my original Heli-Vipers a few years ago. Color-wise, he is inspired by the Club’s Operation Flaming MOTH as well as the 2002 Viper. Filecard by Sam Panico Parts: Head: 25th Snow Serpent Torso, arms: 25th Deep Six Legs: PoC Alley Viper Copter: Retaliation Ultimate Cobra Commander Cobra Radar Station by Oreobuilder "COBRA detects GI JOE airborne forces at the RADAR STATION! The radar dish swivels and elevates to find Joe! Includes 2 COBRA VIPERS!" Packaging by Sam Panico I picked up the Hoth turret at a toy con thinking that it could make a cool Sonic Fighters weapon. However, when I came up with the idea for the Mission Sets, I knew it was a perfect size and theme for these (and I can still display it with my Sonic Fighters if I want). I tried to tweak it a bit to make it less recognizable. Changing the color to Cobra blue helps. For the Vipers, I used this recipe, in classic colors, for the first Resurgence Project in 2014. Since then, I have wanted to make more in different colors. Also, I have had a "green Viper"on my customs to do list since the Spytroops green Viper was one of my favorites from that line. This project gave me the opportunity to combine all these wishes. Day 14: City Strike Stink Bug and Patch
Stinkbug by bucky Packaging by Sam Panico Stinkbug was an original character from part 1. I had alot of fun with the 1st version, though he was a somewhat clunky build. I couldn't pass the chance up to make him again once I had the Scarecrow webgear in hand. I was able to get a toxo viper conversion backpack at Joecon '15. I tried something new and did some "rust" weathering with it as well, and built the toxo gun from a couple of different pieces. Filecard by G1Trekker Parts: Head:Roc flash with tubing added Web gearCU Scarecrow Weapons: cast Toxo viper backpack, modded gun. Belt from raginspoon. Patch by Oreobuilder Packaging by Sam Panico I have had SK Omega characters on my customs radar for a while. I pieced together most of the main cast last year, but never got around to painting and accessorizing them. This project gave me the excuse I needed to get off my behind and get them done. I find it fitting that these characters would be included in a GI Joe toy line as they were created by the fathers of the modern GI Joe mythos. Patch was the character that I was most looking forward to making. I really like the red cross t-shirt with urban camouflage fatigues look of the source material and I tried to be as faithful to it as possible. Day 15: City Strike Big Boa and Foxtrot
Big Boa by Dusty79 Packaging by Sam Panico Big Boa is yet another favorite of mine from childhood. When the GIJCC Big Boa head started being cast, I knew I wanted to do a Big Boa of some type. The GIJCC version was so good though, I didn't want to simply do a remake of that, I wanted something unique and to show a different side of the character. What would Big Boa be like on the battlefield? A bruiser no doudt. When I thought about this, I saw a huge armored beast reigning down destruction in a hail of lead from a chaingun. And what does M.D.N.W. stand for? "Mass Destruction, No Whining!" Filecard by Sam Panico Parts: Head: Cast Torso and hands: Ret Road Block Arms and Upper Legs: RoC Heavy Duty (armor) Lower Legs: Ret Road Block with Retaliation Kwinn boots modded on and IG armor Vest: Bashed from bits of Ret Road Block, Ret Duke, an armored Captain America, and 30th IG armor Weapon: Bashed from Poc Shock Trooper shield + various fodder parts Foxtrot by Oreobuilder Packaging by Sam Panico I have had SK Omega characters on my customs radar for a while. I pieced together most of the main cast last year, but never got around to painting and accessorizing them. This project gave me the excuse I needed to get off my behind and get them done. I find it fitting that these characters would be included in a GI Joe toy line as they were created by the fathers of the modern GI Joe mythos. Foxtrot ended up being my favorite. The combination of dark blue and teal really works nicely for a toy. Day 16: City Strike Centurion and Street Fox with Mudflap
GI Joe Centurion by Oreobuilder "Cobra is no match for Joe’s roving vehicular fortress! This imposing urban assault carrier steamrolls over Cobra’s forces! The GI JOE CENTURION rolls on land and floats in water! It carries and deploys the GI JOE STREET FOX into battle! Includes driver MUDFLAP!" Packaging by Sam Panico For Resurgence 1, I made the Crusher Tank. For Resurgence 2, I made the Cougar IFV. For part 3, I felt the Joes needed an armored personnel carrier. Since PTE makes a decent one, I started there. I removed the "buckets" that took up all the interior space and modified the inside to fit the quad. Finally, I added a hinge on the back to make the door. For the color, I went with grays to give the Centurion an urban battle feel. Initially, the Centurion was to be a simple Armored Personnel Carrier. I wanted to modify the back with seats to carry troops. Once I actually got around to making the changes, I realized that it would be a lot more fun if it carry a small vehicle, similar to the Cobra Anaconda last year. This time around, I wanted to keep the vehicle believable (as opposed to the Splitjaw Recon Bike last year), so I immediately thought of the PTE quad. It is a fun, sturdy and compact vehicle that would have seen a lot of play if I had it as a kid. Fortunately, it fit perfectly into the back of the Centurion. The Centurion started out medium gray. I quickly got bored with such a simple color scheme and decided to hand paint some urban camouflage onto the chassis. Unfortunately, that went sideways really quickly. The camouflage did not come out as I hoped. I tested a few other options that did not really work out. That's when the idea of painting it up as the '83 APC struck me. The original APC was my very first GI Joe vehicle. I remember getting it for my birthday in 1983 (along with Flash and Grunt), so it holds a special place in my memories. I think the PTE version repainted works well as an updated version. Mudflap is a character I created for one of my very first customs several years ago. At the time, I was still experimenting with paints, brushes, painting techniques and spray paints. I never really created a personality or characteristics for him aside from his specialty. The original custom’s purpose was simply to find a use for spare ARAH fodder parts as well as practice my skills. However, looking back, I still like some of the ideas I had at the time and thought it would be fun to revisit and complete the character with what I know now. Filecard by Sam Panico Parts: Head: RoC Duke Helmet: VvV Greenshirt 6-pack Torso, upper arms: 50th Lowlight Lower arms: Marvel Hydra Trooper Belt: DG Duke Knife and sheat: Marauder Task Force Upper Legs: Ret Kamakura Lower legs: 50th Hawk Centurion: Chassis: PTE Turret: Captain America vehicle Street Fox All: PTE Quad with added gun and rear rack removed Next: Aleph and BRAHMA from bucky Last edited by PHX Customs; 07-16-2016 at 06:48 AM.. |

Day 17: City Strike Aleph and BRAHMA
Aleph by bucky Packaging by Sam Panico Aleph came about for the simplest of reasons. I got the head for the figure as a freebie after placing an order with Coby at AVACS Lab! My original intention was to place him in the Mission Brazil set, until Oreobuilder came up with the unique Cobra color scheme for that set. I didn't want to deviate from the set colors, so Aleph was placed further along in the project. His look and color scheme is an nod to the DIC cartoon series. Filecard by Sam Panico Parts: Head:Cast from Avacslab Torso:Retaliation Trooper Arms: Upper Resolute trooer, lower Kamakura Legs: Retaliation SE, Storm Shadow Web gear: MU BRAHMA by bucky Packaging by Sam Panico So there's this fella on Joecustoms that goes by Joemichaels, and being on the losing end of the Red Laser/Blue Laser contest, well he owed me a few customs. He delivered at Joe Con in Springfield, and one of them was using a robot body from Iron Man. A funny side note, is that for some reason, I always end up tearing apart the customs he gives me. I did the same thing for Resurgence 2 when I tore apart his Samurai Destro to make Kobura Kai. This figure started off with just that bull head which I found in a Wal Mart clearance toy. I had it sitting around for awhile, and had it placed on a B.A.T. body for fun. After awhile, I thought it would make for a cool large robot, but I couldn't find the body in which to use it on. Then I remembered JM70's figure, and went to work. :shifty: I struggled a bit with this one. The build was pretty straighforward, I added kibble here and there so it didn't look completely like the Iron Man drone figure. It's the paint I had problems with. I'm not sure the difference in plastic is the reason, but the paints didn't like to stick well. In the end, I feel it came out ok, but I also feel it could have been alot smoother. Thanks to members of Joecustoms for helping with the Acronym name. Filecard by G1Trekker Parts: Head: Clearance Toy, unknown. Sorry lol. Day 18: City Strike Cobra Urban Surveillance Mission Set
Urban Surveillance Mission Set by Oreobuilder "Cobra intercepts GI Joe’s secret coded frequency at the COMMUNICATIONS RELAY! The computer screen flips open and the antenna extends up to 4’’ tall! Includes 2 COBRA TELE-VIPERS!" Packaging by Sam Panico Tele-Vipers are a pretty popular troop builder and they showed up frequently in the Sunbow series. Yet there have not been many figures made of them over the years. For my customs, I wanted to avoid simply making a version of the Concept Case Tele-Viper, so I looked at the Spytroops/Valor vs Venom years for inspiration. The Python Patrol version had a solid build and color scheme, so I tried to stay true to that recipe. A communications station is the kind of small playset that could have been released at the height of Joe’s popularity in the mid ‘80s. I could see it as something that would be fought over by the Joes and Cobra. I tried to incorporate as many features as I could to make it feel like a real toy. Filecard by Sam Panico Parts: Head, shoulder pad: VvV Tele-Viper Torso, arms: 50th Hawk Vest: RoC MARS Trooper Legs: RoC Hawk Communications Relay Parts: Base: RoC Lava Pod Added parts: Retaliation Duke quad launcher (mechanism) + various RoC launcher bits for the antennas. Day 19: City Strike Skyblast and Silver Mirage Cycle w/Buckshot!
Skyblast by bucky Packaging by Sam Panico There hasn't been much in the way of "jet pack" troopers for Joe outside of Starduster, so the idea to create a new character was on my to do list. I modeled him after the Rocketeer for strictly nostalgic reasons. After looking at my the initial build, he looked too similar! I went back and started to add some different colors to the boots and gloves, and added the sky blue to the helmet. The backpack was pieced together with various parts out of my fodder bin and a Marvel pack. I imagine that the bottom thrusters and wings are what gets him in the air, and the secondary thrusters from the wings are what gets him going even faster. He was a fun figure to build and one of my favorites. Filecard by G1Trekker Parts: Head: Star Wars Poe, VvV Helmet with fin added Torso: Crimson Guard Arms: Crimson Guard with Marvel Universe gloves Legs: Viper/Alley Viper Web gear: Cyber Ninja with pouches added Weapon: Silver Mirage Motorcycle with Buckshot by bucky ''Roar into action! This sleek turbo cycle is the fastest land vehicle in the mobile strike force. Includes double barrel cannon, side car mounted machine gun and armored canopy! Includes driver BUCKSHOT. Other figures sold seperately'' Packaging by Sam Panico It's a custom of me? Sure why not? It's the last Resurgence. I added some scruff for chin hair, and a leather jacket for riding a motorcycle, something I enjoy quite a bit. The mirage was a fun custom as well, a little bit of scrap parts here and there gave me a new toy to ride around in Filecard by Klicarr Parts: Head: Colton Torso: DG shipwreck Arms: heavy Metal Legs: Ultimate Duke Web gear: Raginspoon vest Next: Space BATS from bucky and Lunar Showdown Mission Set from Oreobuilder Last edited by PHX Customs; 07-19-2016 at 12:42 AM.. |
