I know this isnt exactly GI joe but i figured many of you would bet a kick out of this. I had to redo my sons room after we had some hail damage on our roof and we got a leak. So while talking to my wife about what we would do I decided to theme the room star wars. The bed idea come along a little later.
I didnt use a pattern per say, but i did google at at beds and looked at other examples. I didnt really like any of the ones i saw online because they either had the panel lines crudely painted on, or the scale was way off. Many of them had decent ideas though so i "stole" ideas from the beds and collected my sons AT-AT toys and headed to the shop. I measured out the different areas of the AT-AT and tried to make the scale appear close to the toy. I then made the outlines of the main panels on plywood and the interior panel lines on some MDF. So the panel lines on the AT-AT are actually individual panels. I got the placement and shape of the panels from the AT-AT toy and some still photos of the movie AT-ATs. I did omit the toes on the feet because i was afraid my kids would stub toes in the middle of the night, and i left off the circular part the goes front he leg to the foot for the same reason. Also added in a huge poster of the battle of Hoth for the back of the shelf next to the bed to sorta give the illusion of seeing the battle behind the AT-AT bed. The loft up top is just a place for my son to play and store his rather vast vehicle collection of star wars and joe vehicles. Hope you guys enjoy this project it was fun and my son loves it. heres is a link to the WIP thread http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...bed-build.html Last edited by hellian75; 09-10-2015 at 09:40 PM.. |
