Day 10:
''Cobra is back! ''Cobra Commander's plan to capture Duke has failed. GI Joe has rescued their first sergeant and destroyed Cobra's jungle fortress. Beaten, but not destroyed, Cobra has retreated to lick their wounds and plan their next move. To put his new plan into motion, Cobra Commander has recruited new agents and has unleashed them onto the battlefield!'' Meathead - Single carded figure Filecard by Charles Cushman (Raptor) From the desk of Oreobuilder: Truth be told, I’m not a big fan of the Dreadnoks. I’m not against them per se. I think that having a biker gang to cause chaos is a useful tool for a terrorist organization like Cobra. However, they were never my favorites and, before the 25th anniversary, I never had a Dreadnok in my collection. That said, after Bucky did the fantastic Riff Raff last year, I was inspired to try my hand at making my own. I started from the Chap Mei head and the RoC Heavy Duty torso. That gave me a large character. The rest came together after that. Head: Chap Mei Torso, arms: RoC heavy Duty Legs: 25th Buzzer Bandolier: PoC Steel Brigade Cobra Desert Viper - Mail Away figure Filecard by Thomas Wheeler (G1Trekker) From the desk of Robert Osborne (Ozzie92), winner of the 2015 JoeCon Franken-Joe contest. I was asked to provide a custom for Resurgence 2, and let me tell you...the honor was all mine! The request was for an urban/desert Cobra soldier, with the idea that it would be largely a repaint, offered as a mail away promotion. Hence, my design/parts choices. Starting with the Dollar General blue Cobra Trooper, I decided on my color scheme (urban influenced) and camo pattern (desert influenced from the mid-90s, "chocolate chip"). After that, the focus turned to the accessories. I used a knit cap cast from AVAC'S LAB and attached a pair of 50th Hawk's goggles. I painted his mask gray like the first ME officer, suggesting a modicum of experience, with possible officer ranking. I painted Hawk's tactical vest gray, along with a fodder web belt/pouches. I also painted the gloves, kneepads, and boots gray, as well as a scarf cast from AVAC. I used the holster as a gas mask mount, and attached it with a bit of bandolier fodder painted black. I gave him a flashlight, as well as an assault rifle lightly dry-brushed with steel. The boot knife blade was painted steel, too. I attached another bit of fodder bandolier to the rifle, and wah-lah! Resurgence 2's promotional mail away figure. Thanks for the vine, Joes...hope you enjoy. Last edited by PHX Customs; 07-11-2015 at 08:35 AM.. |

Day 11:
''Following the disastrous events of Operation Waterfront where several Joes were taken prisoner by Cobra, General Hawk has tasked Chuckles to put together a team to find and rescue his men. Meanwhile, a new group of GI Joe recruits are tasked with finding out what Cobra’s new plan is. Little do they know that both missions will lead them to Gold Springs, a nice little town in the desert…'' Eagle Eye - Single carded figure Filecard by Charles Cushman (Raptor) From the desk of Bucky: The idea to revisit eagle eye came early on in some brainstorming sessions. Originally the figures build was rather bulky, with heavy armor and padding. As time progressed on, and seeing behind the scenes pictures that the other guys were doing, it made more sense that as technology advances, so does the gear. I scrapped the build I had and started concentrating on a slimmer, meaner looking Eagle Eye. The original figure from part 1 was one of my favorite builds, and I have since become rather attached to the character. I liked what I had come up with for part 1, though looking back, he seems a bit cobbled together. I am even more pleased with version 2. The backpack idea with the gun attached I wanted to keep, as I looked at it like one of those accessories that identifies the figure.. Not having a copy of the original pack gun, I used a data viper one instead. It ended up working great, as it can still detach and be used as a pistol if needed. I found an old shield and did some light dremel work to get it to attach to the backpack, along with modifying another mini missile launcher to attach as well. The main gun he uses is a modded marvel universe. The build was more fun than I have had customizing in a long time, and I was trying to mimic the vintage figure that had awesome play accessories and attachments. I've become attached to the actual character itself as well, and plan on doing more of him in the future. I just need to get that helmet I made cast. Parts Used: Retaliation Trooper Helmet (modded) PoC Duke torso, with modded Bazooka belt and added pouches Retaliation Snake Eyes arms Poc Firefly legs, with Pouches and Retaliation trooper holsters. To put his new plan into motion, Cobra Commander has recruited new agents and has unleashed them onto the battlefield!'' Techno-BAT - Single carded figure Filecard by Charles Cushman (Raptor) From the desk of Oreobuilder: After doing the Inferno BAT for Resurgence I, I liked the recipe so much, I wanted to make another BAT using the same basic parts. At first, I was thinking about using the classic black and yellow. However, I decided to explore another possible specialty and turned to Techno-Vipers. I figured that BATs could assist the battlefield technicians in making emergency repairs on vehicles and equipment in the heat of battle. Techno-Vipers are highly trained and few in number and Techno-BATs are more expendable, so they take part in the more dangerous missions. Head: Ret Combat Ninja Torso, arms: 25th BAT Legs: RoC Accelerator Suit Duke Backpack, gear: 30th Techno-Viper Debugger w. Icebreaker - Alpha Class vehicle The Debugger is on the attack! Its 6 large wheels propel it on any terrain. This rolling super-computer can predict GI Joe's strategies and transmit battlefield information to SWARM Troopers. The Debugger will lead Cobra to victory! Includes driver ICEBREAKER. Filecard by Charles Cushman (Raptor) From the desk of KeepItCleanCustoms: Working in IT as my career path I have developed somewhat of a natural affinity or obsession with the Data Viper troops. I’ve done several pieces catering to what I assume they would need to achieve their missions. With this piece I saw this captain america tank and loved the mold and thought the Data Viper color scheme would make it pop a bunch. The only real changes I made were adding some Zoid fodder I had from Zoid Liger upgrade kit for the canons, rocket pod, and antenna. Everything else was just paint krylon paints with acrylic hand painted accents. Hope you enjoy! Last edited by PHX Customs; 07-13-2015 at 03:38 AM.. |

Little do they know that both missions will lead them to Gold Springs, a nice little town in the desert…'' Prodigy - Single carded figure From the desk of Bucky: Sam (Doe138) came forward during Resurgence 1, and let us know he liked what he saw and wanted to design packaging for the Resurgence figures. Of course, he was more than welcomed back for part 2, and he had some great ideas to boot, one of them being the Son of Destro. I took the task on of trying to create something for him. We purposely left out Prodigy's mother, wanting to leave it open as to whether he was born before of after Destro hooked up with Cobra. I had the head picked out long ago, as I thought it was a nice in-between a full metal face mask and a new take on one. The rest of the body came together over time, and color was added later to help break up the black and make him more "Joe". The hoverboard was included to give him a little dash of youth, and is something he more than likely came up with himself. From the Mind of Sam Panico: I always wondered, if the Joes and Cobras had kids, what would they be like? I imagined that Destro would have a son who studied at the finest school, had the cunning and inventiveness of all the McCullen clan, yet hadn't matured yet. He'd be in the circle of reality star kids. He's probably slept with a few Hiltons and fired flamethrowers at a few Karadasians. I figured Destro would want to both toughen him up and also protect him, so what better place than with the Joes? The fact that Flint is looking out for him is kind of cool, as I always felt there was a debt of honor between Destro, Lady Jaye and Flint. I'm beyond excited at how he came out! Little do they know that both missions will lead them to Gold Springs, a nice little town in the desert…'' Chuckles - Mail Away figure Filecard by Charles Cushman (Raptor) From the desk of Bucky: Chuckles came about a couple different ways. I've had that build set aside for the longest time, but wasn't in a rush to ever finish it. I've seen it done by others, and it is a great adaptation for Chuckles. When kicking around ideas for the Gold Springs storyline, i thought it would be the perfect opportunity to finally do something with the build. I had no desire to paint his shirt up like the vintage version, but I thought it would be funny to do his vest up like that. It came out alot better than it had any right to, and got more than a few "chuckles". Destro - Single carded figure Filecard by Charles Cushman (Raptor) From the desk of Oreobuilder: When we started throwing around ideas for Resurgence II, Destro and the Iron Grenadiers were going to play a bigger part than the way it ended up. Still, after making a battle armor version of Cobra Commander last year, I thought it would be fun to do a Destro in battle armor as well. Using the Thor base is a different look for the laird, but once in the proper colors and with Raptor’s excellent filecard to create a reason for its existence, I think it works. Bonesaw - Single carded figure Filecard by Charles Cushman (Raptor) From the desk of Bucky: Bone saw: The build and head for the figure were well in place before the character itself. He's sporting a sweet piece of web gear by raginspoon that I picked up long ago in Indy, and was waiting for something to use it on. I didn't originally plan for the build to be a saw viper type of character, but once I pieced it together, it seemed to be a good fit. I wanted him to be more Squat and Bulky, which lead to me playing with different builds until I found one that looked like he was built, but not a monster. The character is not mean to be "the saw viper" from the comics, but the influence is definitely there. And one of those is a dedicated archer. It might seem a bit silly to have a soldier running around with a bow and arrow, but that is some of the appeal of GI Joe as a whole. It's not a bunch of bland army guys, it's bright and colorful and unique. His look was tweaked here and there, as I really wanted to use that torso. I'm not sure why, I just really thought it looked like it belonged. The colors of the figure are meant to mimic what is my oldest memory of Robin Hood, which is the Disney version of a cartoon fox. I had been wanting to do a modern version of this character for a while and he seemed to fit nicely. The hardest part here was making a modern medic helmet. I originally planned to just use glasses, but delays in recieving a casting order pushed me in another direction. I tried a lot of different things before figuring out to cut the faceplate off a Steel Brigade Delta helmet and add the glasses from Renegades Ripcord. I thought it looked like something a modern medic would wear so I went with it. For the rest of him, I tried to take cues off the original and just use more modern parts options. Desert Scorpions - Mail Away set The Sand Wolf will devour anything in its way! Features folding tracks, removable skis, hidden missile rack, two separate cockpits and special sand torpedoes. Includes 2 DESERT SCORPIONS! Filecard by Thomas Wheeler (G1Trekker) From the desk of Oreobuilder: The Sand Wolf was a late addition to the project. One day, I was staring at a spare 50th Cobra Wolf sitting in my vehicle fodder box. I was trying to find new ways of using it. I thought that it would make a cool desert vehicle, so I gave it a shot. I added a couple of Desert Scorpions to man the driver and gunner positions. We made it a mail away since it is a pretty simple custom. It fills the same role as the black version of the HISS II we made for Resurgence 1: Oreobuilder's Blog: GI Joe Resurgence! Day 26 - HISS II with Tracks-Vipers Once we decided to include the Sand Wolf in the project, we needed a driver for it. I looked at yojoe and a couple of reference books to compare all the various Cobra desert troopers that had been made over the years. One of the options was the Sand Viper from the new sculpt years. In the end, I settled on the classic Desert Scorpion. Since I don’t have the Club’s version, I have had it on my to-do list for a while. I tried to stay as true to the original look as possible, including the colors. Day 19
''Following the disastrous events of Operation Waterfront where several Joes were taken prisoner by Cobra, General Hawk has tasked Chuckles to put together a team to find and rescue his men. Meanwhile, a new group of GI Joe recruits are tasked with finding out what Cobra’s new plan is. Little do they know that both missions will lead them to Gold Springs, a nice little town in the desert…'' Forward Operating Base - Mail Away set ''The mission to liberate Gold Springs has begun! GI Joe has set up the Forward Operating Base in the desert outside the town. From there, they strike Cobra targets with the mortar and resupply their assault force with fuel and ammunition. Includes desert trooper SUN DEVIL and infantry specialist GROUNDPOUNDER.'' Filecards by Charles Cushman (Raptor) From the desk of Oreobuilder: The Bivouac is still one of my all-time favorite small playsets. I never had it as a kid, but one of my friends did. I have fond memories of playing with our Joes together. I was always using the Bivouac as a small outpost to spy on Cobra or lob mortar shells at the bad guys. When I started collecting Joes again as an adult, I picked up a couple of used Bivouacs on eBay. Since I was planning on painting one in desert colors, I figured it would be fun to include it in this project. Ever since I made Groundpounder in his green fatigues last year, I have wanted to make a desert version. Since the base Duke body was already tan with really nice camouflage, I kept it and simply changed the accent color and some of the accessories. In our story, Groundpounder captured in ‘’Operation: Waterfront’’. However, he got rescued in time to take part in the assault to liberate Gold Springs. FOB: Tent, weapons rack: Vintage Bivouac Barrel, jerry can, laptop, crates: PTE Radio: 50th Night Landing Mortar: ? Binoculars: 25th Duke Groundpounder: Head, helmet: PoC Dusty Vest: RoC Pit Commando Everything else: Ret Ultimate Duke From the desk of Bucky: I enjoy revisiting characters I have created (with the help of our filecard writers), and the chance to work in Sun Devil again fit perfectly with the Mail Away storyline. I might be the only one that will remember him in a year, but that's ok. Instead of a Straight repaint (since Sun Devil was a desert trooper already in part 1), I used the Duke Base to match his partner for the set, GroundPounder. I used the red again that I used in part one, and gave him some different webgear and a desert themed top. An untold story from Resurgence 1, is that I spoke to Gary Head on Facebook when we were first kicking the idea around, wanting to know if he could give us some insight on what might help us. Try as I might, I'm not sure I could articulate what we were going to attempt to do, so I feel as though I rambled on. His response-"I totally get what you are trying to do". He informed me the person that could give us some sound advice was Patrick Stewart, whom I talked to then, and gave us fantastic advice regarding a large amount of figures-make them colorful, and make them stand out. If you have a large amount of figures released in a year and line them up, you'll notice a large variety of colors. That thought process, as simple as it sounds, was incredibly helpful and I never got to thank Gary for pointing me in the direction of Mr. Stewart. This figure is for you Goggles!
