Couple of years back I was still learning heaps about customising and after I picked up some Defense of Cobra Island Alley Vipers (yes, the hideous orange ones) for cheap (about $5 from Sinodolls off eBay) I wanted them to have some gear. I cobbled together what I could, and it looked like shit, but I learned heaps from it.
So I had another go at it and I'm a bit happier with the results. * Helmet - ROC Air Raid/POC Duke, modded with my wife's acrylic nails. * Visor - Carved from old pill bottle. * Vest - Riot gear from Marauder's Gun Runners (Not for sale anymore?) modded. Pouches from Renegades Ripcord, ROC Agent Helix, ROC Night Adder/Jurassic Park Cancelled. * Shield - Carved from old shampoo/laundry powder bottles. * Guns - Scopes from Marauder's, guns from ROC Elite Viper. Rest filled in with misc. fodder. I blogged the process (such as it was) here. A heavy amount of copying off of the POC and RET Alley Vipers I've got and a lot of lesson-learning.

I have to tell you how much I love these!
The amount of work you put into this must have been insane, At first I could not distinguish the custom from the factory ones. I really applaud you sir, this is phenomenal! |

I think you did some incredible work and I don't mean to take away from that but I have to ask - if you were going to make the parts look so similar why not just repaint existing parts? Like, why not buy alley viper shields and helmets and armor and mod those. I think these show crazy improvisational skill though, so regardless the time was well spent learning and making something.
Actually, I sort of got my answer by reading the blog you linked a la "creativity borne from necessity". These are a huge improvement over the 1st version you did, you gained shills.

Actually, I sort of got my answer by reading the blog you linked a la "creativity borne from necessity". These are a huge improvement over the 1st version you did, you gained shills. When I can get a $30 figure for $5, even if he's missing his gear, I take that as a challenge to either find his gear for same cheapness (like casts, from Vortious et al) or from those eBay auctions that you luck out on. If I've got stuff that only cost me a few bucks in the first place, then I'm happy to use it on a project that's lit my fires up. So yeah, why don't I just spend another $15 on a POC AV and paint his gear? I can't afford it. Hate to say it, but there it is. The two AV's that I got were in INSANELY cheap auctions (I haven't paid more than $6.50 for either of them, per unit) and I treat them with the White Gloves. The RET AV I've got was a clearance from BBTS for $5. Thanks SO much for the praise (and the candid honesty!) though guys, I really appreciate it.

These look great! I didn't even realize those weren't factory gear at first glance. Nice work!

That's really nice. I was looking at the Sinodolls Alley Vipers too cause I can't afford a complete one. However, I just couldn't pull the trigger cause there was no gear. I love what you did.

You have earned every bit if praise you get bro. You are one heck of a customizer. Your builds are always creative and now you can make gear. What is next? Weapons? Vehicles? Packs?
