Before I ever got into doing my own customs, I had commissioned a few awesome ones from fellow Tanker Mermaniel back in the day, including one of my all-time favorite action movie characters: John Matrix from Commando, played by Arnold Schwarzenegger. A wonderful family film that chronicles the tale of a man's quest to retrieve his beloved daughter from the clutches of evil terrorists who are trying to blackmail him into doing their dirty work, Commando is one of the best films that 80's had to offer, filled with humor, valuable life lessons, and torrents of blood-soaked violence.
However, as happy as I was with Mermaniel's commission, deep down I had always wanted to be able to develop my own skills the point where I felt I could take my own personal take on Matrix as well. It was just something I needed to do...call it a test, if you will, although early on it never really seemed possible I could handle such a project. But, after a lot of practice and help from the people here, I finally got to the point where I felt I could try, and I'm really pleased with how it came out. Yes, painting eyes is pure death, but I somehow managed to do it. Head is Glassman Customs. The vest - which was very important to me to get as close to the film's version as possible - is made up of bits and pieces from countless sources. Upper body is MU Absorbing Man and legs from from Ultimate Roadblock. Hope you like it. I worked hard on this one. Lots of pics, too. BTW, the Bennett custom is by Mermaniel.

Great figure! A hell of a lot better than the official one that we got: John Matrix is one of the classic movie characters that should be made an honorary Joe, like Rocky was going to be. Along with Rambo, Dutch Schaefer, Jason Bourne and Ethan Hunt.
I love the fat Freddie Mercury figure too! If you hadn't posted so many great photos, I wouldn't even mention it, but you need to add one of Matrix decapitating a guy with a sawblade. Every thread should have one. |

I'll have a look through the garage when it finally gets above freezing. I know I've seen a little 3/4" gear somewhere that would be perfect for that.

Wow. If this is a test, you passed with honors. That face with the eyes and skin tone is awesome.
The vest is spot on too. If I remember right though, by the time he assaulted the compound, his handgun was a Desert Eagle and he used an M-60 (don't remember which one, maybe the D or E3?) instead of the M249. But who cares, your work is so awesome, things like the watch and the short dio story just go one top of it all. |
