I'm thinking of making a USS FLAGG for my son, who like myself is huge GI JOE fan. I never had the chance to get one as a kid and made my own out of plywood back then. Well, I made a big mistake and told my son that I had made one many moons ago. Now he's asking me to make one for him. Now, being the cool dad that I am, I cant let him down. And need to make it kick ass! I plan on placing dark gray laminate over the plywood for a smooth deck surface. That way the decals could stick better. But the problem I'm facing is "the superstructure". Does anyone have ideas how to make the radars for it? I was thinking of buying the originals off ebay but they scam on the price. Also need a good name for it.

Welcome to the Tank man. There are tons of 1/18 scale accessories on numerous sites, search around, have fun with it. Most of the OG FLAGG stuff is crazy pricey, not really worth it, especially if it's going to be played with. Keep us posted with pic's on the evolution of your adventure. Name it something that means something to you and your son. Have fun dude!

How about using one of the WWE BnB cage pieces for the radar dish. I've noticed a strange similarity...

Heres the plans Im working on for the superstructure (minus the radar). As soon as I buy the materials, i'll upload my progress. I promised the wife that it would take up much space...so I'm planning on having platform at 7'x3'x6" so that it can slide under my sons bed. The superstructure will have to be detached in order to fit.

Make it CV-66, the USS America! Place the deck decals on just like all Flaggs and put the superstructure decals on as "66". The Flagg has it's numbers on the deck upside-down according to military regulations.
I like the laminate idea for the deck. I want to make a Flagg as well but have some time as my son is only 5 and isn't into Joes very much right now. I plan to make my superstructure out of foam core and use lots of dowel rods for the antennas. You could get an old Wolverine and use the turret on that for the missiles. Sure they are smaller, but you get 12 instead of 6 and the missile were re-released in the accessory packs so they should be easy to find.

Looks great so far! I took a cheap TRU aircraft carrier with the little 2" metal planes. And EXPANDED it big time!
