Well this is what I have been doing over the christmas break. Although I LOVE the Cobra Legions SetIve always been kinda annoyed because its hard to display the figures in the box....so I made custom cards for all of them.
I have posted the cobra commander that I made before but I made a few changes again. First off I changed the position of the foot from the 25th anniversary card to the old school 1982 cobra commander. Also, I added Cobra Legions to the top of the card in keeping with the rest in the set. For the Cobra Trooper, Storm Shadow and Stinger Driver I modified the original artwork from the vintage cards. For the backs of thier cards, I reused the artwork from the inside flap of the Legions Box...but I had to recreate the missing sections due to the yellow name boxes that covered thier legs, guns, hands, etc... I want to thank Hisstank board members "thehigherstandard" and "gunslingercbr" for thier input in regard to developing and constructing these cards. Thanks alot guys, I appreciate your willingness to share your tips with me. Anyways, let me know what you think. Thanks! Sam Btw, Im missing the air trooper from this set because I havent been able to find one in stores yet...otherwise I would have put it in the group shot. :( Cobra Commander (updated) http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...n/DSC01048.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...n/DSC01049.jpg Stinger Driver http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...n/DSC01050.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...n/DSC01052.jpg Storm Shadow http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...n/DSC01057.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...n/DSC01059.jpg Cobra Trooper http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...n/DSC01062.jpg http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...n/DSC01064.jpg Group Shot http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...n/DSC01067.jpg Last edited by Wyo; 01-16-2008 at 02:59 PM.. |

Wow, that's very cool. I love the carded look much better than the 5-packs themselves.

Very nice indeed. Do you have a blank template you use for the entire front, complete with layers for the logo, background, character pic, etc.? Or are the pics scanned or custom?

em. Well, my technique is probably different than others but I mainly start out with a blank templete then add everything I need. I actually set up my own 25th anniversary templete that I draw from when I start on a new card. I do work in layers. A lot of the times I scan in the image I need, modify it, recreate and add in missing pieces and blend them into the image. I usually work off the vintage explosion in the background. I usually have to recreate it to cover up gaps or text or somthing like that. I could scan in the new 25th explosion and reuse it on every card, since that is what Hasbro does but I HATE the 25th explosion....it looks really lame in my opionion. I like how the vintage explosions were made for each individual characters. Anyways, its a lot of work but A LOT of fun. I spend way to much time doing this when I should be doing other things......studying for example! |

Wyo,
The work shows, though. I create DVD covers in my spare time and must get everything to look professional before I'm happy with it. I've seen far too many 'half-assed' attempts at covers, etc., so it's nice to see someone who puts forth the effort to make something really special. Keep it up! em. |
