It's been almost six months since I last added to this thread! Here are some updates:
Custom Lionheart courtesy of Jarred Fouche: Donatello's new hat and mech: What if the Foot Soldiers from the 1990 live-action movie were robots, like they were in the '80s cartoon? And to close, a run-in with Lord Simultaneous sent Donnie to the future, Leo to the Horn of Africa in the 1800s, and Raph to the Old West, resulting in a Hensonverse take on the Wacky Wild West Turtles: |

Nice batch!
Great to see pics with the workshop, looks incredible. And that Old west Doc is awesome, he should visit Don's workshop

Lots of new goodness to share! But first, some replies from (*gasp*) three months ago!
Quote:
Unfortunately, while out on a shoot I lost Raphael's cowboy hat, which a friend had crafted for me. Major bummer. :( Meanwhile, I'll be sharing some proper shots of Donatello's work station below! Quote:
Cheers, my friend, and thank you! Sometimes the editing and gimmicks fall flat for me, but I too dig the mad scientist vibe of that portrait. Thanks again! And now... DONATELLO'S WORK STATION!!! The creation of my talented friend, Skot (who also made Raphael's lamented hat.) What Skot accomplished with some paint and a few pieces of foam is nothing short of witchcraft! Add in the dozens of accessories he generously included, but the dozens and dozens I'd gathered over the years and received from others, and I like to think Don's station looks suitably cluttered and lived in! I am so giddy about this diorama! But now, it's time to shake things up... with another custom of Skot's! He and I went to Robert Louis Stevenson Park last weekend, and he brought his amazing Hensonverse Jennika! Plus an awesome Mythic Legions steed for her to ride! I also photographed my Leonardo atop the horse, not that one can discern which turtle it is from this distance: Moving on, ya know who else is staggeringly talented at the custom game? Tankster Innovations! He recently sold me his kickass Man-Ray aka Ray Fillet for a song, and after several months I finally managed to visit the ocean for a shoot: For all the beautiful weathering and detail, the base sculpt still suits the cartoon figures best, and I don't collect the toon stuff, but I had to get my hands on this guy! A few weeks ago, I returned to my old stomping grounds of Twin Falls, Idaho, where I took KillerTomato's brilliant Lionheart and Doctor El out for their first ever shared portrait: I also photographed a slightly less ambitious custom beneath the Perrine Bridge, namely my lazy (and strange) Cowabunga Carl kitbash: However, my primary goal during the visit (besides visiting old friends, of course) was to utilize the tank parked out in front of the National Guard as a stand-in for Krang's HQ for a sequence I call Attack the Technodrome: I'm pretty happy with the sense of scale. Alright. Whew! We're just about done with this mammoth update. To close, I want to share three portraits of something that is almost unprecedented in my fourteen years and thousands of posts here at the HISS Tank: a custom I actually painted. Admittedly, it was just a simple paint wash, but it was my first, and it felt rather high-stakes, considering the toy in question cost about $200! Basically, I popped the head from a Funko Pop Metalhead onto the Titans Return Omega Supreme for a behemoth I call either Metalhead Omega or Mega Metalhead (or, as a friend on Instagram suggested, Metalhead Supreme!): It was a rushed, sloppy job (I forgot to wipe the paint off his bicep, ha ha), but I'm pretty happy with the final result. Thank you to the few of you who still notice the rare times when I update this seven-year-old thread! Last edited by Monte Williams; 07-23-2021 at 09:00 PM.. |

In the immortal words of Janice from friends.....Oh....MY....GOD!!!that diorama is freaking amazing. The layer of details and tidbits...its like looking at those "hidden treasures" game. To the creator of that diorama...I SALUTE YOU mate!
Love the idea of an old battle tank as the threads of the technodrome and the turtles are scaling it. give a bit more content to the standard pic. Like a clip from a movie "METAL Supreme!" is a great idea. Love the concept of metalhead being oversized and larger than life. Cowabunga Carl could be the Funko Pop of the turtles I'm not updated to the turtleverse but I do remember a story where one of the turtles became the leader of the foot clan replacing the shredder (ralph I think). Your figure is almost perfect (only missing is a helmet and the standard evil villain cape) but with shots like these, who am I to complain I noticed you're almost exclusively turtles nowadays...have you tried messing around with the new McFarlane Spawn series? Im super excited about cowboy spawn and raven spawn in glorious 16pt articulation ' |

Thank you for the kind words, Lee!
My biggest thread ever remains my old Geek Creek Kitbashes thread, but so many of its photos got deleted during the Flickrpocalypse that I can't bring myself to revisit that thread, sadly. But while I almost never buy or photograph Joes anymore, nothing has ever dominated my hobby the way they once did... although Turtles are a close second, ha ha. Quote:
I could see maybe using the 1:18 Reaction Turtles, but they're so simplistic that only the original 1982 Joes would probably look decent with them. (I attached a photo of a Reaction Turtle.) Sorry, man, I wish I could be more help! Quote:
I haven't read the comic book arc you referenced, but the current IDW TMNT comics have some pretty interesting developments re: the Foot Clan and the heroes! Quote:
That said, I am probably going to get McFarlane's Death Metal Batman and his Batcycle; they look amazing! Thanks again, guys! Last edited by Monte Williams; 07-26-2021 at 01:21 AM.. |

Lazy April kitbash utilizing a NECA Laurie Strode body:
I had an idea, inspired by Turtles Forever, of combining various Aprils in my Hensonverse, but I decided I didn't like the idea enough to spend a lot of money on it, so all I pursued was NECA Hunger Games Rue as the April from Rise of the TMNT (a show I've never even seen, but here we are): G.I. Joe Sigma Metal Mayhem mech in the sewer lair dio my friend Skot made, followed by a remote-controlled robot I'm using as a movie version of Fugitoid, since its logo reminds me of Fugitoid's head: Super 7 Bebop and Rocksteady, who are perhaps a bit too cartoony for the movie figures (especially Bebop), but they're damn fun toys: (I've decided Bebop and Rocksteady joined the good guys and are particularly close with April. Also, Rocksteady is a Dead Kennedys fan.) And finally, I added some NECA Power Loader pieces and some old McFarlane X-Files diorama pieces and assorted accessories to my G.I. Joe Adventure Team Mobile Support Vehicle to make it a bit more TMNT-worthy: |
