Thanks bro!! Glad you like him, I really enjoyed modeling the character.
Right back at you. I'm a HUGE fan of your Joe/TF crossover work. Although I've modeled a lot of TF related stuff, I'd love to branch out into Joes. I'm actually a big fan of ARAH and more of an organic modeler. I have a few more TF things to knock out, but I'd really like to know what kind of characters the Joe fans would like to see. More women, perhaps? If you guys/gals have any suggestions please chime in. Last edited by Tecrom Designs; 05-29-2014 at 09:47 PM.. |

LOL. Actually, I thought I could do more with the TF stuff at the time with regards to head designs. I really wanted to add something to the genre, so I decided to go that route. As for Joe stuff, it was and still is, in VERY good hands with phenomenal talents like Phantro, Lance858a and customizers like them. Also, with companies like Marauders, Boss Fight, Oritoy (Acid Rain), and Toynotch (Lost Planet) cranking out stellar mass release figures, its an exciting time to be a Joe fan. I love how independents are making it happen, giving us a more expansive world to play in.

Well, lets see what ideas could be designed.
Well Marauder has us covered with modern looking guns and now modern soldier figures. Boss fight has the fantasy Gorgon/Golobulus type creatures as well as spartan warriors angle covered. I imagine the lost planet stuff will give us sci fi vehicles as well as acid rain. I think man something we don't have much of is sci-fi weaponry, like the kind of guns you would see in games like Unreal Tournament or Quake. I think as far as organic stuff, alien looking appendages for figures like zombie arms/tentacles, more zombie heads, maybe mutated heads or alien parts, infested torsos mutating into stuff, perhaps even the lunatrix empire, bio vipers, mega marine bio armors and monsters. Cobra La plants, pods. I also wouldn't mind weapons for BAT's or even backpacks for modern era Joe's that actually can store weapons and accessories. Here is a Arm gun I am currently designing for a BAT, I had an earlier prototype but it was too large to be believable, this one is a smaller redesign. Maybe we could work together on accessories like this? It would be awesome to get ideas from you and you could do some techno organic sci fi weaponry or something along those lines Last edited by phantro; 05-30-2014 at 07:18 AM.. |

Yes, I've been using them close to 8 years now, both professionally and personally. I’ve worked as a traditional modeler for years-formally educated in the Arts and have worked for a couple studios. Believe me rapid prototyping machines have come a "long" way. It's even beginning to disrupt the manufacturing industry. In recent years, production cost with regards to injection molding has sky rocketed, much in part due to this technology.
And yes, I use to own a mid-range, pro-sumer 3D printer, able to print as small as 25 microns, but even that particular model had its limitations .i.e. lack of fine detail, deep print lines, clean up, maintenance, misprints etc. Nothing magical. But companies like Shapeways are invaluable to hobbyist and are getting better at what they do. For example the color prints of the Space Monkey model I did, with a clear coat of acrylic, the colors will pop and the graininess should smooth out quite nicely. Although they are not considered high end prints, and are only used for figurines, these full color prints are relatively inexpensive. The 2.75 inch colored Space Monkey is only about $15. Imagine what will happen when the technology is even further along, say 7 years from now-cost will be way down and you can print anything from your desktop in color with near production quality. It's going to be amazing. Why do you think Hasbro partnered up with 3D systems recently? They have to be on their game when consumers can just download their goods and make them at home. It could mean the end of brick and mortar stores like Toys 'R Us. Regarding high end prints, I have recently used machines that can print as small as 9 microns. With this detail, it was almost indistinguishable from production pieces. If this tech exist now, it will only get better and cheaper. The only drawback today with these high end prints, is its high cost. Example, something the size of my 2.75 inch Space Monkey figure, will run you about $350 and the machines can range from $25k to $250K. These machines are used in various industries like Automotive, Aerospace, Medical, Jewelry, Industrial design, Film etc. Well, I apologize for the lenthy reply, but this technology is something that I’m very passionate about. It’s probably one of the most, if not the most significant invention in recent history because it’s quickly changing our world. Last edited by Tecrom Designs; 05-30-2014 at 08:15 PM.. |
